Watched Pet with Dominic Monaghan. I thought the movie was going to be the typical lonely dude kidnaps chick he has a crush one. But this wasn't the case. The movie turned out to be a deranged kinda love story. Due to the twist with the chick.

Watching an old favorite, "Last of the Mohicans" with Daniel Day-Lewis, which was filmed in my area of Western North Carolina. The film expands a love story to a greater degree than in James Fenimore Cooper's novels, but I love seeing local landmarks there. In fact, the Biltmore Estate was used for several filming locations. I will be there Saturday touring the house before the Christmas decorations come down Sunday night. (I think there are 85 Christams trees in the house this year, with one room having 6 decorated trees, lol) One of my absolute favorites. Did you make it to the Biltmore?

I went to see "Hidden Figures". Really enjoyed it, slice of American's past both amazing and disturbing. I stopped at a bookstore on the way home and bought the book that the movie based on. The main character in the movie/book got her undergraduate degree from West Virginia State College. I graduated from WVSC as well. I remember that hearing that the standards went down at the school after it integrated. So much for Aryan superiority. The story is not just about racial prejudice. There is a strong current of misogyny as well.

I watched the film "Fargo" recently. I've seen it several times.
This time around, I made the connection that the actor who plays "Norm" - Margie's husband is the same actor who played "Eastman" on TWD -John Carroll Lynch.

Last night I watched The Keeping Room and liked it, but I absolutely loved the actress, Muna Otaru, who played 'Mad'. She has a monologue that just broke my heart. Such a fine actress so I hope to check out more things she's in.
Fun fact: I keep seeing people talking about a new netflix show called OA that has Scott Wilson in it. Well the lead actress of The Keeping Room not only created OA, writes for it, and stars in it too. Her name is Brit Marling.

Watched two documentaries over the weekend: Minimalism, which follows two writers who published a book on the effects of consumerism and dissatisfaction. Really great, well researched point of view told in this one.
Last night I watched the Amanda Knox documentary on Netflix. I kind of thought it would stir questions and be in the same vein of Making a Murderer. It wasn't : (

I thought it would put me more on her side and/or talk about Meredith more, but nope.

FINALLY got the chance to watch "Gone Girl".
It was interesting - Kim Dickens was very good IMO.
The book was much better but overall I did enjoy the film.

dark sister I watched " Brooklyn" last night on DVD. I read the book a while ago and loved it. Beautiful story - everything about it was well done. I watched the extra features and enjoyed listening to the book's author explain the Ireland filming was in his home town and how he walked those streets as a boy. Amazing that the NY scenes were filmed in Montreal - only one scene filmed in NY - I imagine the Coney Island scene. I know the actor who played Eilis' Irish "fella" was billed higher as he is a well known but I thought her Italian "fella" was amazing. (I recognized him from OA - I think you mentioned that earlier). I had to use captions to understand the Irish brogue. Eilis - pronounced Eye - Leash - Irish for Elizabeth. Emphasis on the Leash.

Highly recommend "The Way Way Back" a 2013 coming of age story (without the usual cliches). Such a sweet movie. Bonus: Steve Carell is a complete dick. www.foxsearchlight.com/thewaywayback/**** Soooo happy with my new DVD player - watch movies and stream NetFlix.

Watched Silence. Andrew Garfield was very good but the film itself was only alright. Didn't feel like a Scorcese film.

Speaking of not doing well, Matthew McConaughey's Gold is tanking at the box office. The studio didn't seem to get behind Silence at all. I don't think they knew how to market it and they usually do all they can go advertise Scorcese movies. Gold did not look good, so that's not shocking. I think they thought it would be an Oscar contender, then no one bit.

He had lost about the same a couple years ago for his Dallas Buyer's Club role. I watched a bit of his and Bryce Dallas Howard's press junket interviews. hollywoodlife.com/2017/01/28/matthew-mcconaughey-weight-gain-47-pounds-new-movie-role-gold-pics/

I've been parked in front of my TV all day, so I watched: Latter Days: Great little indie film Stop-Loss: Good performances, but too many Texas stereotypes Beware The Slenderman: Interesting doc but it felt unfinished. I hope they do a part two. It aired on HBO.

What the girls revealed in the interrogation videos were the most interesting parts, but you're right the doc would be better served if they had waiting until after the girls went on trial.

That was scary how calm they were about describing all that. I don't know what I'd be thinking if I were their parents.
