uh oh, spoilers are going around. I won't be clicking on any star wars thread until I see the movie. Can't wait~! Good plan spectre. Fortunately our members are wrapping spoilers in tags. Don't click on them by mistake. 8-)

I'm trying so hard to avoid spoilers aside from the outline I read earlier in the year. It's tough. I'm seeing this tomorrow morning. (Yes, morning. My theater literally has a showing every hour starting at 7:00 am)

Well, I finally watched the movie. I think the major drawback of the film is that it tried to put so many elements in of the first movie that it was basically a copy/paste of the story beats. I'm ok with some "rhyming" and parallel themes to happen but when it is point for point and so many of them, it feels forced. I did enjoy the movie up to the point of Han Solo dying. It was so predictable that I knew it was going to happen as soon as he started walking out on that railway. (because it is supposed to parallel Obi Wan's death, that is what made it predictable). I mean, there were so many parallel elements that I couldn't list them all, so I found this video that does so instead.

We are going today. In the meantime I ran across this article about viewing order to get ready to watch the new one. gulfnews.com/leisure/movies/features/the-best-viewing-order-for-a-star-wars-marathon-1.1640872 "If you can believe it, the nerds of the internet have debated this subject to death already. One of the most agreed-upon strategies for getting the most out of your Star Wars watching experience is credited to a fan named Ernest Rinster, who in comment threads has spoken about it with a reverence normally reserved for Yoda. It’s also probably the most effective way to prepare for The Force Awakens. Here’s how it works:"

Oh my! I thought this was a great movie. I enjoyed the 'call backs'. Brought back a lot of memories. The same 'feels' as the original.
***Really glad I read some of the filming spoilers ahead ***
We went to the Alamo Drafthouse - we are lucky to have one of these close by. Had lunch while watching the movie. I had a grown up grilled cheese with fries and a pot of french press coffee. Reasonable food prices. Purchased our 3D tickets on-line.

mashable.com/2015/12/21/rewatching-the-force-awakens/#8ocAO9A6xkql "Lessons from a week of watching 'The Force Awakens': It gets better"
Spoilers in the link. We plan to go again - maybe a couple more times - not right away and we will see it in 2D. I really do think the scenery and 'dressing' of the junk universe was a bit lost in 3D.

that's cool we only have to wait a year and a half. Man they make movies fast these days. Plus we get the Star Wars Anthology next year to hold us over. They can just make Star Wars films from now until the end of time if they like. It looks like they are taking the Anthology approach similar to how Marvel makes their movies. They are different genres that just happen to have super heroes in them. That will really shake things up and keep it fresh.

www.ew.com/article/2015/12/22/star-wars-force-awakens-reyThe Power of Rey
Daisy Ridley's 'Star Wars' heroine is an instant icon
My daughters, who are 10 and 12, have never been that into the Star Wars franchise. Princess Leia and her braided buns — and Padme Amidala with her ceremonial headdresses — didn’t interest them, even when their brother was busy snapping together the LEGO Millennium Falcon. But after I saw the The Force Awakens, I insisted that all three of them come with me to see it again because of one character: Rey.
Played by newcomer Daisy Ridley — a 23-year old British actress who vaguely resembles Keira Knightley circa Bend it Like Beckham — Rey is many things: a survivor, a scavenger, an isolated figure looking for community, a pilot, a mechanic, a warrior… and a girl. But her femininity isn’t a weakness. It isn’t a strength, either. In fact, it isn’t a thing. That is not only remarkable, it’s what makes Rey the most revolutionary thing about Star Wars: The Force Awakens and hopefully the thing that translates best as this phenomenon travels the globe.
And this comment by a reader ... After seeing it last night, my youngest of three daughters asked, with some snark, "So Dad, how do you feel after being tricked into seeing a girl movie??!!" LOL!

I admire Carrie Fisher - she has lived (and is still living) with mental illness and the effects of prior drug abuse (prescription and not) by her own admission. I admire her wry sense of humor and her responses to those who are shaming her for getting older and heavier. I have no words for these kinds of criticisms. www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/movies/ct-carrie-fisher-haters-20151230-story.htmlThis article is just one of many that is quoting Carrie Fisher. One of the best lines though and I'm sure would make her smile ... In response to these opinions, one user pointed out that double standards of physique exist not only between men and women, but also women and robots.
"They made Carrie Fisher drop all that weight for Star Wars yet the new droid gets to be a fat round ball."

www.wired.com/2015/12/25-best-pop-culture-moments-2015/1. Han Solo and Chewbacca Come Home
Where were you on the afternoon of April 16th? No need to check your calendar: Like millions of other Star Wars fans around the world, you were most definitely watching (and then re-watching, and then—during a bathroom break—thinking about re-watching yet again) the eye-dewing kicker scene of that second Force Awakens teaser, in which Han and Chewie—last seen semi-boogieing down on Endor—are finally reunited with their beloved Millennium Falcon. That cocky smile! That hearty, hair-throated growl! From that point, we were totally taken with Awakens.

I like the Rey Kenobi theory. I would prefer that so much more over her being Luke's daughter. If she has to be someone, let her be a Kenobi descendant. Or just let her be a random.

Rey's Instant Bread In Star Wars: The Force Awakens Was Real comicbook.com/2016/01/16/reys-instant-bread-in-star-wars-the-force-awakens-was-real/Who knew?? 3 months to perfect the 'gag' of the instant bread. Actually on the way home from seeing the movie, we talked about how cool it would be to create a meal instantly. "When you were watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there were probably several things that just outright amazed you. Maybe you were stunned by the aerial acrobatics of Poe Dameron and Black Squadron, blown away by Kylo Ren's Force Freeze ability, or shocked when that death hit.
But nothing was as amazing as that damn instant bread.
When Rey gets her one-quarter portion, she takes it home to her hollowed-out AT-AT from the old Battle of Jakku, slaps this little dehydrated bread into a pan, and with a little water and heat, it grows into a full loaf. It's amazing."

VIII production announcement video

www.ew.com/article/2016/02/15/star-wars-episode-viiiArticle that accompanies the Production Announcement video Ripley posted above. Star Wars: Episode VIII announces new cast!
Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran join saga.
Snippet:
The cast of The Force Awakens is back in action, too – 22 months after many were first announced with with a now-iconic black and white photo of the cast assembled on a soundstage for a table read of the script. For Episode VIII, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Anthony Daniels will all return, joining the galaxy’s new generation: Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Domhnall Gleeson. Captain Phasma obviously survived her trip into the garbage compactor, since Gwendoline Christie is returning as the chrome trooper, and we’ll get more of Supreme Leader Snoke and kindly Maz Kanata, with performance-capture stars Andy Serkis and Lupita Nyong’o resuming their roles.
If you still haven’t seen The Force Awakens yet, don’t think too hard about who is missing from that list – although it’s kind of obvious. (And I’m not talking about BB-8. If that roly-poly robot weren’t in the sequel, there would be riots.)

www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/disneys-young-han-solo-search-875784Disney's Young Han Solo Search Narrows to Final Shortlist of Actors After Screen-Tests (Exclusive)
Chewie, we’re almost home.
The search for the young actor who will fill Han Solo's leather vest could be in its final stages, as multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that a shortlist quietly has emerged.
According to sources, last weekend in London tests were conducted involving actors Alden Ehrenreich, who did scene-stealing work in Hail, Caesar!; Jack Reynor, best known for his work in Transformers: Age of Extinction; and Taron Egerton, the star of The Kingsman and Eddie the Eagle.

THR : Disney's Young Han Solo Search Narrows to Final Shortlist of Actors After Screen-Tests (Exclusive)" According to sources, last weekend in London tests were conducted involving actors Alden Ehrenreich, who did scene-stealing work in Hail, Caesar!; Jack Reynor, best known for his work in Transformers: Age of Extinction; and Taron Egerton, the star of The Kingsman and Eddie the Eagle. Sources say there could be a few other names on the list, though due to the high level of secrecy on all Star Wars projects, it’s hard to ascertain them. Disney declined to comment. Those who tested — and it’s unclear if these were costume tests or screen tests — were plucked from a previous group of around 10 actors who met with the directors. Among the names whispered to have met are Miles Teller, the Whiplash star who appears in the Divergent movies; and Ansel Elgort, the Fault in Our Stars star who also is in the Divergent movies. Emory Cohen, who played Saoirse Ronan’s love interest in the Oscar-nominated Brooklyn, also tested. Actors from Richard Linklater’s new movie Everybody Wants Some also had meetings, according to sources. ...he character will debut in a Star Wars spinoff movie being made by Disney, Lucasfilm and filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie) and scheduled for 2018...." link

Apparently ProBoards won't let me change my user name to match my name Rosie. s*i*g*h what a PITA! Click on Members Tab and you can see what I mean. There are a few others that can't be tagged by their name like Sexual Chocolate . She changed her name from frankburns to Sexual Chocolate and still has to be tagged by her original user name. Bravekat one of the mods has the same issue.

"...We’ve already told you about one highlight: an hourlong documentary that details the making of “The Force Awakens.” And on Thursday, Disney released a teaser previewing the movie’s deleted scenes, including footage of Kylo Ren standing in the cockpit of (spoiler alert) his father Han Solo’s illustrious Millennium Falcon, before abruptly turning around. What’s caught the wicked dictator’s attention? We’ll find out when the DVD/Blu-ray arrives early next month. It includes seven deleted scenes in total. For now, watch the teaser..." The wait is over. www.ew.com/article/2016/05/06/who-is-alden-ehrenreich-han-solo"Who is Alden Ehrenreich? Meet Star Wars' new Han Solo
The day has finally come. Late Thursday night, news broke that Disney had found its new Han Solo. For the first time, the iconic spacefaring smuggler will be played by someone other than Harrison Ford, and that person is Alden Ehrenreich. Although he willl soon be filling some of the most famous shoes in film history, Ehrenreich himself is still a bit of an unknown right now. Here’s a quick primer."
....
"George Lucas famously cast Harrison Ford in Star Wars after the then-struggling actor showed up to fix his office door as a carpenter. Ehrenreich’s origin is similarly funny and random, as he told New York in 2009 ahead of his feature film debut in Tetro. “To be honest, you go to a bat mitzvah in Los Angeles and you can count on at least a few industry people to be there,” Ehrenreich said. He just so happened to show a home movie of himself cross-dressing and generally acting punk at one such Jewish right of passage with Steven Spielberg in attendance. The legendary director was so impressed that he got Ehrenreich an agent with DreamWorks and kickstarted his acting career."
