"Well, this is a pleasant surprise—AMC has announced that its awesome-looking Preacher adaptation will premiere May 22nd, meaning you’ll get to see Jesse and his friends (and his unpleasant foes) on the small screen a lot sooner than we all expected. The news was released through the show’s Twitter account, alongside a new picture of Dominic Cooper’s Jesse lighting up a cigarette: /photo/1 It feels like we’ve barely seen any of this show, but what we did see back in November last year has us really excited to see Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s messed up world come to life. At least now with a premiere date, we might start seeing more and more of it. Preacher will air May 22nd on AMC, after the midseason finale of Fear the Walking Dead. link

"...The whole premise of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s comic series is that Jesse Custer (played by Dominic Cooper in the show) is possessed by a supernatural crossbreed between angel and demon named Genesis, granting him unnatural power. In the process of his possession, his church is blown up, killing his congregation in the process. According to Entertainment Weekly though, there’s a slight twist to the comic’s opening—the supernatural force is apparently alien in origin, and Jesse isn’t its first target. It goes around the world possessing various preachers while they practice their faith, but their bodies can’t handle it... so they violently explode. A montage of scenes depicts this in the pilot, i ncluding a news report starring none other than Tom Cruise, standing outside a Scientologist church... and yes, he explodes too. Speaking after the pilot premiered, producer Evan Goldberg said that the cameo was never questioned by AMC: It’s amazing, no one said anything! We kept waiting for somebody to say ‘no’ and now it’s too late. So yes, when you tune into Preacher May 22nd, you’ll apparently get a pretty great show—and some exploding Tom Cruise for good measure. link

"Earlier today, we found out that the AMC show Preacher would be premiering May 22 at 10pm. But a lucky few who are attending South by Southwest in Austin actually got to see the pilot, and they took to social media to react. Thankfully, they loved it. And they loved it whether they’d read the original Vertigo comic series by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon or not. Here are some reactions from fans and journalists alike. link

From Wondercon this weekend: www.avclub.com/article/amcs-preacher-shows-its-arseface-234392AMC’s Preacher shows off its Arseface " Share Tweet Anticipation is building for AMC’s Preacher, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Sam Catlin’s upcoming adaptation of Garth Ennis’ profane modern Western, about a faith-endangered holy man who ends up the unwilling recipient of the all-powerful word of God. Ennis’ comic is full of grotesque characters—the guy who pleasures himself on a giant mannequin made of meat comes immediately, and unfortunately, to mind—but one of the setting’s most visually unsettling people is also one of its most genial and kind: failed suicide victim Arseface. Obviously, it wouldn’t be a real Preacher series without the generally cheerful Kurt Cobain fan spreading heart-warming-but-revolting semi-smiles to the people of small town Texas, which is presumably why actor Ian Colletti was cast in the part last year. We got a glimpse of Colletti in costume and make-up back in August, but it looked a little blurry and incomplete, not capturing the true Arseface glory. Realizing that it’s got less than two months before the show’s May 22 release date, AMC has now corrected that issue, taking advantage of the series’ panel at last night’s WonderCon to put out a glossy picture of a character whose name, we remind you, is Arseface, so you should probably consider yourself warned:

Positive review of Preacher "Television is in a rut. There’s an abundance of great TV, but if the ratings for The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones are any indication, we’re drawn to death, and grimness, and intricate plotlines that we can try to unweave. But to a degree, it’s also a misery slog: When that reunion happened in Game of Thrones last week, I couldn’t count the number of people who were excited to see a happy moment in the series for the first time in years. Meanwhile, on The Walking Dead we just wait for people to die. The burning question at the end of each episode is, “Who will die next”? Even on Netflix, there’s a formula, devised specifically to get you to keep watching. As great as television drama has become, it’s also been robbed of its joy. AMC’s Preacher brings Joy back into the equation, and then Joy fucks Glee while Ultra-violence sits over in the corner and watches. This is the shot in the arm that television so desperately needs. It’s fun, but the stakes are also high. There’s an element of faith to it, but it doesn’t demand that we grieve. There’s a brooding character in the center of this fantastic new universe who broods, but he is not without the occasional smirk, especially when it comes to breaking the arms of rednecks. There’s sex appeal, but it’s not about nudity and fucking. It’s about attitude, and fluidity, and the pheromones seeping through our goddamn television screens. Preacher is a force. It combines the Western themes of Unforgiven, the stylish ultra-violence of Tarantino, the comic sensibility of creators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and the purposeful, detail-oriented writing of Breaking Bad (thanks to showrunner Sam Catlin, previously of BB). Moreover, we don’t have to wait around for the characters to grow on us. They’re instantly likable. Dominic Cooper’s Jessie Custer is quiet, mysterious and magnetic; Joseph Gilgun’s Irish vampire Cassidy is wiry-arms and drunken, wry one-liners; Ruth Negga’s Tulip is a compact, ass-kicking Goddess with a whiff of True Romance’s Alabama Whitman; and even Arse-Face — a kid with a face shaped like an asshole — comes into the series fully-formed, in spite of the fact that he mumbles incoherently..." www.pajiba.com/tv_reviews/amcs-preacher-review-the-thumb-in-the-ahole-of-television.php

From WaPo "...The energy level flags a couple of episodes in, however. “Preacher,” which feels very much like a story concocted while passing around a bong in a dorm room, has no problem acing its science-fiction and film-appreciation classes, but it struggles with philosophy and theology — the serious side of its tale. Preacher Jesse’s inner turmoils (besides the fact that he’s hosting some sort of raw energy that allows him to control other people) are presented as a crisis of faith, reflected back at him in the sorry spiritual state of his friends and neighbors.
While visiting the mother of a woman whose daughter is in a vegetative state, Preacher fails at the art of authentic consolation. “That casserole you brought is worth more than [your] words,” she says with utter derision. “At least when you’re gone I can feed it to my dogs.”
“Preacher” is rife with glimpses of human ugliness and moral rot, heavily emphasized with dust-blown desert tropes and a permanent twang that’s always meant to evoke the inertia of remote landscapes. The show’s instinct for the supernatural is much more impressive than its sense of its main character’s desire to know God. “Preacher” struggles to depict the challenges of ministry, relying mainly on cliche — which is disappointing, given the show’s title and central idea.
Much of the first four episodes are spent untangling a convoluted premise (“Preacher” is in no apparent hurry to explain its basic mythology or connect some major dots) and offers only the barest glimpse at some essential backstories that would help viewers follow along. It all seems like protracted set-ups for a much bigger, cosmic conflict that will have Preacher and his friends at its center, but a viewer gets no indication of how far off that is. New characters keep popping up before we can get a sense of who they are or why (or if) they’re important; in some ways, it can seem as if you’ve joined the show midway through the first season..." On AMC there looks to be some "Bonus Editions" to air which I'm hoping will answer some questions I'm confused about !
From my Time Warner listing:
06-30-16 9pm Thursday: New "Chapters 1 & 2: Bonus Edition" An in depth look at the two sides of Jesse Custer as he attempts to escape his past.
06-30-16 11:35pm Thursday: New "Chapters 3 & 4: Bonus Edition" An inside look at Cassidy's attempt to fend off the angels, Jesse and Tulip.
07-01-16 1:30am Friday: New "Chapter 5: Bonus Edition" Jesse becomes Annville's latest rock star. Plus in depth look at Tulip and Cassidy.
07-03-16 9pm Sunday: New "Sundowner" Jesse comes face to face with Deblanc and Fiore, then learns more about the entity that has overtaken him.

Just checked my Time Warner cable schedule again, and the two shows listed for Thursday 6-30-16 (tonight) are still listed. I forgot to include in my original post that I'm on the East coast so the times I'm listing are for Eastern time zone. Sorry, I keep forgetting not everybody lives in the EST. Anyway, the first one listed above for 06-30-16 runs for 2-1/2 hours from 9pm to 11:35pm. The second one listed for 06-30-16 runs another 2-1/2 hours from 11:35pm to 1:35am. The third one listed for 07-01-16 Friday morning is 1 hour from 1:35am to 2:30am. I'm still clueless on what these are. I find it hard to believe it's some kind of marathon for the previous episodes since they're listed as "Bonus Editions" but whatever it is, it's on straight through for 6 hours starting tonight. I set it up on my DVR either way. By the way, for those not in the know, the "Talking Preacher" has NOT been on following the normal Sunday night episodes so maybe that's why AMC is putting this on to hopefully answers questions some may have that we're not getting on "Talking Preacher."

Apparently it was just a marathon of the first 5 episodes !!
Dah, why didn't they just show that as a marathon?
Then during commercials they had short blips on TPTB comments but nothing earth shattering. I learned nothing new.

"AMC has renewed hit comic book adaptation “Preacher” for Season 2, Variety has learned. The show is currently halfway through its freshman season run of 10 episodes. The second season will expand to 13 episodes, slated to air in 2017. Based on the cult comic by Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, the co-production from Sony Pictures Television and AMC Studios is the #2 new series on cable this year among adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, and is currently averaging 3.3 million viewers per episode in Nielsen live plus 3 ratings. The supernatural drama was developed by executive producers Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen and Sam Catlin, with Catlin also serving as showrunner and writer. “‘Preacher’ is a special television program and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios. “What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.” link

The episode from last night was crazy. Shit's getting deep !
And poor Arseface, did he really disappear into hell? But I agree with him, as young as he was, to realize that you can't force people to believe, that has to come from the heart.
Also, now Jessie's vampire buddy, Cassidy, realizes that there is something, or was something, between Tulip and Jessie.
But over and above the actual story, the filming and production of this show is amazing.

www.ew.com/recap/preacher-season-1-episode-6OMG! The fight with the Seraphim was outrageously well done! Cassidy coming in and shooting it when it had been finally restrained was hysterical. The custodial angel "disarticulating" the Seraphim to keep it alive but immobile - brilliant! Another review had this to add about Preacher sending Eugene "Arseface" to Hell. uproxx.com/tv/preacher-sundowner-did-eugene-go-to-hell/2/“Go to hell, Eugene!” That’s exactly what Eugene did. Once again, forgetting how literal his powers are, Jesse sent Eugene to hell
But did he really? Or will Preacher reveal a narrative cheat in the next episode. Was Eugene sent, for instance, to Hell, Texas? This series is truly a delight. I'm thrilled I stuck with it after the first episode. BTW: Only four more episodes in Season 1. Anyone else think Ruth Negga (Tulip) is a stunning woman? Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy is a hoot - his costume for hiding in the sun would be a perfect Halloween costume. I wonder if anyone would 'get' it? Both of those actors are from abroad BTW. Negga has got that Texan drawl down!

webergal Dominic Cooper (Jessie/Preacher) speaks here about Eugene chastising Preacher for not allowing people to 'choose'. www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/preacher-star-dominic-cooper-jesse-908068Interviewer: You mention that Jesse isn't shaken very easily, but at the end of the episode, he has a tense conversation with Eugene, that ends in Jesse telling him to "go to Hell." By the looks of it, Eugene obeyed the word to the letter. What is it about Eugene that gets so firmly under Jesse's skin?
Dominic Cooper: It's everything. Eugene is always saying the thing that Jesse can't cope with hearing. He scratches at the surface, and he's right. He's more truthful. He's more honest. He gets it better than Jesse. He gets why Jesse shouldn't be doing these things. You can't force someone to change their lives. You need to learn these lessons yourself. You learn how to be forgiven, or you get forgiveness in a different way. You can't force it. Jesse is forcing all of these issues, and it's not working. I think Jesse can't bear to have his buttons pushed by Eugene, and eventually he has enough of it. This is Jesse's evil side coming out. It's much easier for him to get rid of this annoying voice on his shoulder that's insisting he do the right thing. Jesse knows Eugene is right, but he can't cope with it. Then the demon side comes out. The lack of remorse right afterward is totally terrifying. In that initial moment, he doesn't regret it at all. When you look back over Eugene, though, he's been constantly addressing Jesse's pitfalls.
Interviewer: We do know that Heaven and Hell exist in this world, so when Jesse tells Eugene to "go to Hell," is it safe to take that literally? Is Preacher about to go to Hell?
Dominic Cooper: Well, we'll see. I can't say anything. But it definitely exists. That's become very clear. Maybe Jesse's guilt will get the better of him. But it certainly plays more on Jesse's conscience [in the future] than in the episode you just saw. It's definitely part of the dark side of him that changes his personality dramatically.

I'm pumped for tonight's episode !!
I didn't think I would like this show and even struggled through the first couple episodes but now it's getting really crazy.
I love the actors who are playing Jessie, Tulip and Cassidy. They'e all doing a fantastic job. Those are my favorites but really everybody on the show is doing a great job.
I do have one question and that is, where does that dude from the 1800 fit into this show? He left his home on horseback, and had to go find medicine for his daughter, lost his horse, killed some dudes, and by the time he got back (walking), his wife and daughter were both dead, being pecked at by the crows.

I was beginning to think that the GPS location of Annville in Texas was the same from the 1800 town of Ratwater scenes years earlier, because the lone tree that Jessie was standing by in one of the episodes seem to resemble the same tree where the Indians in the 1800 flashback scene were scalped and hanging as the Cowboy rode his horse past to get medicine for his daughter. I've been also confused on why the mother of the young girl that Jessie told to "open her eyes" had such hatred against Arseface. Did he do something to that young girl and that's why she was in a coma? There are so many flashbacks here and there that it makes you scratch your head as to what they mean to the story, or I should say to Jessie's story.

First, I want to say it brought tears to my eyes last episode watching Tulip's backstory as a little girl. And just my opinion but it was very un-Christian for Jessie's father to call social services to get rid of her. Broke my heart watching young Jesse running after the car when they took Tulip away. ??? Yes, I've noticed the costumed person (with a large "P" on the front of his costume) walking the dog and have yet to figure out the what, who, or why !! So now, I"m wondering where Cassidy is and did Jessie put out the fire or leave him to die? Was the Alamo really that big and spread out as it was shown in the model? Yes, one of my questions was answered when Jesse was telling Cassidy the story of how the "coma girl" (Tracy) had rejected (Arseface) Eugene's interest in her in school and that he shot her and blew off part of her scalp, and then tried to shoot himself in the face afterwards.

I'm enjoying Preacher tremendously. It just keeps getting better and better! LMAO at the guy who got his dick shot off, and ended up with his dick in a box!!! I didn't expect Tulip to feed that poor dog to Cassidy either. I'm glad they didn't show that. I'm glad Cassidy is alive, but sorry yet another animal fell victim to AMC's animal hatred. Odin Quincannon's backstory, the church organist and her family situation, Tulip and her uncle who's constantly passed out ~ the show is funny, shocking, quirky and never boring.
I'm just sorry it's down to the last 2 episodes. Best summer entertainment I've seen in a long time!

This has truly been the strangest show I've ever watched, but so interesting, yet weird !
At times it leaves one with the "WTF" question and other times you find yourself rooting for a character you wouldn't have expected at the start of the show. I love how they picked out actors for both Jessie and Tulip's younger versions for the flashback scenes.
On the dog, OMG !! It was bad enough that they used a rescue dog for Tulip to give to Cassidy but worse that she befriended the dog as though he was her new pet then threw him into the the room for Cassidy to kill. THAT was hard to handle for me !
I was sad that Under the Dome went off the air for summer entertainment but this show certainly filled in the gap... and then some !!
Those two angels really crack me up !!
Sad that tonight is the last episode :-(
