I read Room by Emma Donoghue a couple years ago. Has anyone read it? Woman and her small son kept in captivity - hence the 100 sq ft "Room" which is the little boy's world. The film (script was written by the author) is opening soon. www.nytimes.com/2015/10/16/movies/review-room-mother-and-child-in-100-square-feet.html?_r=0Link contains the trailer. "Like some mother-and child stories, “Room” is about two people who have yet to cut the cord. In the case of Ma (Brie Larson) and her 5-year-old, Jack (Jacob Tremblay), the separation has been delayed because they’re prisoners in a tiny shed that has been her cell, her hell, for seven years. Having been kidnapped at 17 by a man she’s named Old Nick (Sean Bridgers), and given birth in captivity, Ma — as she’s known for most of the story — has held onto life through her child, whose world is circumscribed by four pitiful walls, his mother’s heart-heavy love and his own imagination."

I love Brie Larson, she was amazing in Short Term 12. I think this will make a better film than a novel. I didn't dislike the book, it was an interesting narrative coming from a five year old, but I thought his voice sort of bled into the other voices, and eventually everyone sounded like a child.

nana and dark sister I finally saw Room, last weekend. I think the film version did right by the book. The child actor, Jacob Tremblay, deserves an academy nomination and I'm so upset he didn't get one. The voiceover definitely works better in the film but in both I love that we see everything through the eyes of a child. Bring tissues, if you see it.

A close friend mentioned the film last night telling me it was worth seeing ASAP. Unfortunately, it leaves you thinking about how many women and children are living like this. I highly recommend it, though. I wish we lived closer to each other, we would have so much fun going to movies together.

I saw it last week. It is beautiful in every sense. All the acting is so wonderful..but the little boy steals it. I haven't read the book so I will do that.

Tremblay is amazing. The supporting Actor Oscar line up is such a joke without him (And Michael Shannon, Paul Dano, and Benicio del Toro, imo)

He did win another award for his performance (I can't remember if it was the Golden Globe). He was so grateful and charming. He said he had just the place for it - on the shelf right next to his Lego Millennium Falcon.
Keep your eye on Jacob - we will see him again.
