Could be a bunch of reasons rosie I don't know the Georgia commercial real estate market that well to know if this would be considered a "good price" but always a possibility that Raleigh was looking to sell and pricing was right. The most logical one to me with a major reason though would be: 1) They wanted to own the studio as they like the costs to film in Atlanta, a location "off the beaten path" where their ancillary costs for producing a show in that area are significantly lower than a Los Angeles or New York. Not just fixed costs, like the costs for real estate taxes or putting people up in much cheaper hotels, but also the availability and costs of crew, etc as you are not competing with other large markets. I'm sure Georgia has also proven itself to be a more "friendly 'market" for tv and movie producers to get things done(filming in various locations on the street for example) which has got to factor into that equation because we have seen more companies filming there. Even when TWD is no more, these are still huge benefits for future shows from AMC. 2) I would bet money that the state of Georgia and/or the county the studio is located in gave them some sort of an economic incentive to make this deal due to how positively the local economy has been impacted(not just additional revenue from all the additional employees this has brought in to all local business', but think about the amount of tourism income this has created for the area!) This can take many forms to lower(or no) real estate taxes or waiving or lower of other local taxes, to outright monies. These things are VERY common and done all the time to lure larger employers to select a certain state or county to domicile their businesses in. In fact,it is very common to "shop" this and pit one against the other to get the very best deal. For instance, they might have gotten a bid from some depresssed county in state and county x(Don't want to insult anyone so not naming one lol)who would have bid very aggressively. They then use that bid with Georgia and/or county they are in to push them to give more. So IMHO it was a combination of those two things that swayed them at the end of the day but that is really my best guess.

Because Gimple plans to continue the show until at least Season 20 lol If they do go until season 20 (which I can't imagine will ever happen), they'll need to do a special: The Walking Dead: Viagra and Depend

I can see the value to the community of AMC owning the studio. It means future productions will take place there past TWD and the gravy train for tourism will continue. Big win for them. Unless AMC unloads it when TWD is done. The industry thrives in Georgia though so there should always be an interested investor.
