Hackers have broken into the networks of HBO and reportedly leaked unreleased episodes of a number of shows, as well as the script for next week’s “Game of Thrones” episode. Altogether, they have reportedly obtained a total of 1.5 terabyte of data. HBO confirmed the intrusion in a statement sent to Variety: “HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information. We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cybersecurity firms. Data protection is a top priority at HBO, and we take seriously our responsibility to protect the data we hold.” Entertainment Weekly was first to report about the hack, and allegedly leaked content, Monday. According to that report, the hackers have already leaked unreleased episodes of “Ballers” and “Room 104.” HBO chairman and CEO Richard Plepler addressed the hack in an email to employees, calling it “disruptive, unsettling, and disturbing for all of us.” Plepler said that the problem is being addressed by “senior leadership and our extraordinary technology team, along with outside experts,” and went on to call the efforts to mitigate the hack “nothing short of herculean.” www.yahoo.com/tv/hackers-break-hbo-networks-leak-game-thrones-script-155956441.html

Can we hire these hackers to get TWD scripts and rewrite them? I don't watch Games of Thrones but are any fans upset about this?

The hack is estimated by HBO to be 7 x the Sony hack. Also, an unaired episode has leaked online- BUT it is not related to the hack, lol Variety "'Game of Thrones' Episode 4 Leaks AUGUST 4, 2017 | 07:27AM PT This Sunday’s episode of “Game of Thrones” has been stolen and posted on the internet — but the leak isn’t related to the massive hack of HBO’s systems disclosed earlier this week, according to a report. Links to the fourth episode of “Game of Thrones” season 7, set to be aired and streamed Aug. 6 by HBO, appeared on a discussion board on Reddit, the Verge reported Friday. The pirated copy of the episode was available via Google Drive, according to the report. But the leak came from pay-TV distribution partner Star India, whose logo appears as a watermark in the pirated copy with the text “for internal viewing only,” the Verge reported. “We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner’s end to swiftly determine the cause,” a rep for Star India said in a statement. “This is a grave issue and we are taking appropriate legal remedial action.”..." link

The saga continues......now ransom is being demanded www.yahoo.com/tv/hackers-release-game-thrones-synopsis-hbo-emails-ransom-221222741.htmlHackers Release ‘Game of Thrones’ Synopsis, HBO Emails, Ransom Letter Ryan Gajewski 12 hours ago Reactions Like Reblog on Tumblr Share Tweet Email A hacker group released data on Monday that it claims to be have obtained from the HBO breach, including a synopsis of an upcoming “Game of Thrones” episode, along with contents from a network executive’s email inbox. The hackers refer to this latest information dump as the “second wave” following last week’s release, which included episodes of “Ballers” and “Insecure” and a “Game of Thrones” script. A file in the new release is a video containing what appear to be descriptions of scenes from the fifth episode of “GoT” Season 7, set to air on Sunday. One file is labeled “Script GOT7 E- 05,” while another contains screen shots of information related to “Game of Thrones,” including details on marketing and castings. Also included is the group’s purported first ransom notice to HBO, in which the hackers claim that it took them six months to breach the network’s system. The letter demands money to prevent the release of data. The message also claims that HBO is the 17th target of the hackers, and that all but three of those paid the ransom. “Our demand is clear and Non-Negotiable: we want [amount redacted] dollars to stop leaking your data,” the hackers allegedly told HBO. HBO said in a statement that the network does not believe that hackers have full access to the network’s email system. “HBO believed that further leaks might emerge from this cyber incident when we confirmed it last week,” the statement read. “As we said, the forensic review is ongoing. While it has been reported that a number of emails have been made public, the review to date has not given us a reason to believe that our e-mail system as a whole has been compromised.” “We continue to work around the clock with outside cybersecurity firms and law enforcement to resolve the incident,” the network message continued. “Meanwhile, our dedicated employees continue to focus on delivering the high quality of entertainment and service for which we are known.” Last weekend’s “Game of Thrones” episode was leaked to the internet several days prior to the episode airing, although this was determined to be unrelated to the hack.

HBO has offered a $250,000 "Bounty" Variety "HBO Hacker Leaks Message From HBO Offering $250,000 ‘Bounty Payment’ (EXCLUSIVE) AUGUST 10, 2017 | 01:01PM PT The HBO hacker has struck yet again. Variety has obtained a copy of another message released Thursday by the anonymous hacker to select journalists in which HBO is apparently responding to the initial video letter that was sent informing the Time Warner-owned company of the massive data breach. The message from HBO, dated July 27th, features the network’s offer to make a “bounty payment” of $250,000 as part of a program in which “white hat IT professionals” are rewarded for “bringing these types of things to our attention.” While the message takes a curiously non-confrontational tone in response to a hacker out to damage HBO, a source close to the investigation who confirmed the veracity of the email explained it was worded as is to stall for time while the company attempted to assess the serious situation. The message also implores with the hacker to extend a ransom-payment deadline for one week while the $250,000 payment is made and the necessary amount of bitcoin can be secured. “You have the advantage of having surprised us,” the message reads. “In the spirit of professional cooperation, we are asking you to extend your deadline for one week.”..." link

The leaks and hacking looks to have had no effect on the shows ratings at all. Their ratings are the highest they have ever been. Maybe other shows coughTWDcough should leak some of their spoilers to create some talk / excitement for their next season.

Maybe other shows coughTWDcough should leak some of their spoilers to create some talk / excitement for their next season. TWD's attempts (cliffhangers and the such) have the opposite effect lol. It's the good quality of GOT that keeps the ratings increasing. It's telling when people didn't want to watch the leak last weekend because they'd rather see the battle scene for the first time in high quality.

"Four people have been arrested in relation to the “Game of Thrones” episode leak earlier this month, Agence France-Presse reported Monday. The leak came days before Season 7′s fourth episode, titled “The Spoils of War,” was scheduled to air on Aug. 6. A watermark on the video file pointed to an HBO distribution partner servicing Southeast Asia called Star India. “We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner’s end to swiftly determine the cause,” a Star India spokesperson said in a statement at the time. “This is a grave issue and we are taking appropriate legal remedial action.”.."
