I loved the Christmas Special this year- one of my DW favorite Christmas episodes! Great to see Alex Kingston and Peter Capaldi play off one another as brilliantly as I thought they would. He was so sweet with "Hello, sweetie" and it was a bittersweet close to their story. As Whovians know, it was the last (24-year long) night before her appearance in "Silence in The Library" and the next final River Song story. Sigh...

Another one activates the regeneration mode.Even though Peter Capaldi is excellent actor.I never really warmed up to his Dr Who, and I put that down to Moffat writing. :-/

I was so sad to hear that he's leaving. I was so very glad when they got rid of Clara, it was about time they let him shine instead of letting her character take over the show, and then this. Dang it.

Ripley I have two favourites Tom Bakers and Matt Smiths versions. I think both we perfect for the role. I liked David Tennants to, but I wasn't a fan of the whole Rose stuff.

I'm a Tom Baker fan, and liked Matt Smith well enough. His Amy arc I loved but Clara is my least favorite companion, so that kept Matt out of my favs. Loved Baker as The Curator in the 50th special.

EW
" SIMON RIDGWAY U.K.-based bookmakers William Hill have made Bond actor Ben Whishaw the favorite to replace Peter Capaldi in the long-running science fiction show Doctor Who. The company is offering odds of 6/1 that the Skyfall star will become the next Doctor, a two-hearted alien who periodically changes his physical form.
Capaldi announced Monday that he would leave the show later this year. BBC America has confirmed that the Doctor’s “regeneration” would occur on the special Christmas episode.
Whishaw plays the character of armaments expert Q in the Bond franchise. His other credits include Cloud Atlas, the Oscar-nominated The Lobster, and voicing the role of the titular bear in 2014’s Paddington, which featured Capaldi in its cast."

I'm a Tom Baker fan, and liked Matt Smith well enough. His Amy arc I loved but Clara is my least favorite companion, so that kept Matt out of my favs. Loved Baker as The Curator in the 50th special. Clara was the worst companion ever. Her character did nothing but argue and whine, and she betrayed the Doctor and couldn't accept him as being older. My favorite scene with her in it was when Missy shoved her down the hole that led to the sewer. She pretty much took over the show, and I was really looking forward to seeing Capaldi shine now that she was gone. Tom Baker was my first, and one of my favorites, along with Matt Smith. Matt had only a few episodes with Clara so she didn't change my love of his character. Christopher Eccleson was quite good as well, and Capaldi was great when Clara wasn't around, like in the episode with River. I'm really sorry to see him go.

Capaldi and Kingston- serious chemistry and magic there from two veteran actors who know the value of "less is more" onscreen IMO. I am enjoying Coleman in Victoria on PBS quite a lot and feel it is a more natural role for her than as the foil for a Timelord. I know Moffat had them swap qualities in her last season but it felt anvil-heavy as symbolism. Im glad she moved on and is finding successes.
I loved Nine too "most places have a North", with and without Captain Jack, Rose and others. One of my favorite episodes was he and Nell Hudson as the surviving Slytheen in Cardiff and deciding her fate. Also The Doctor Dances and The Empty child.

Doctor Who - Season 10 - Peter Capaldi Exits, Teaser + Premiere Date Revealed Official PR Capaldi first stepped into the TARDIS in 2013, and will leave the iconic role in the 2017 Christmas special after three incredible series of the BBC's global hit sci-fi drama. He made the announcement on Jo Whiley's BBC Radio 2 show tonight. Speaking about the upcoming series this spring, he exclusively revealed the next series of the world's longest running sci-fi show will be his last. Peter Capaldi says: "One of the greatest privileges of being Doctor Who is to see the world at its best. From our brilliant crew and creative team working for the best broadcaster on the planet, to the viewers and fans whose endless creativity, generosity and inclusiveness points to a brighter future ahead. I can’t thank everyone enough. It’s been cosmic." Capaldi was unveiled to the nation as the Twelfth Doctor during a special live television event on BBC One. Peter's Time Lord has been much loved and critically acclaimed, with Series Nine featuring some of the best-reviewed performances and episodes of recent series. In particular, his anti-war speech in The Zygon Inversion, and his solo appearance in the one-hander, Heaven Sent, have been widely acclaimed as among the finest performances by anyone in the role of the Doctor. Under his reign the show has expanded globally; he took the series on a world tour and has drawn record ratings in BBC America, Canada, and Latin America. The highly anticipated 10th series returns to screens on Easter Saturday after a year's break. Peter Capaldi's final series also marks writer and executive producer Steven Moffat's last, so promises to be unmissable event television. Steven Moffat, writer and executive producer, says: “For years before I ever imagined being involved in Doctor Who, or had ever met the man, I wanted to work with Peter Capaldi. I could not have imagined that one day we’d be standing on the TARDIS together. Like Peter, I’m facing up to leaving the best job I’ll ever have, but knowing I do so in the company of the best, and kindest and cleverest of men, makes the saddest of endings a little sweeter. But hey, it’s a long way from over. Peters’ amazing, fiery, turbulent Doctor is still fighting the good fight, and his greatest adventures are yet to come. Monsters of the universe, be on your guard - Capaldi’s not done with you yet!” Peter will be joined in Series 10 by new companion Pearl Mackie (Bill), and Matt Lucas (Nardole) with guest appearances to come from David Suchet and Michelle Gomez. He has starred alongside Jenna Coleman as his companion Clara Oswald, Alex Kingston as River Song, Ingrid Oliver as Osgood, as well as Keeley Hawes, Tom Riley, Frank Skinner, Maisie Williams, Joivan Wade and many more. Peter's Doctor has fought Daleks and Davros, Cybermen, Zygons, new monsters like the Veil and old foes the Time Lords. Brian Minchin, Executive Producer says: "Peter Capaldi is an extraordinary Doctor and has taken the show to amazing places. Although I'm sad he has decided to move on in 2018 I'm delighted that we have one final series with Peter Capaldi and Steven Moffat. I know what they're planning and it's going to be incredible." Capaldi will return in the next series for 12 episodes in April, followed by the Christmas Special when the regeneration will take place. link

Doctor Who: New Companion Bill Is In Awe of the Time Lord in Latest Trailer The Doctor’s new companion is having the time of her life in the newest trailer for Doctor Who Season 10 (premiering Saturday, April 15 at 9/8c). BBC America on Saturday released a new teaser featuring Bill (up-and-coming British actress Pearl Mackie), who can be seen running towards some sort of supernatural spirit alongside the Time Lord and assistant Nardole (Matt Lucas). The voiceover finds the new companion gushing over The Doctor, referring to the iconic character as “funny,” “amazing” and “a man of peace [who] walks in war.” Mackie succeeds Jenna Coleman, whose Clara Oswald made her final appearance in the Season 9 finale. Her inaugural Doctor Who season will also serve as Peter Capaldi’s last, who in January confirmed that he would exit the role of Time Lord following Season 10. Showrunner Steven Moffat is also on his way out, and will be replaced by Broadchurch scribe Chris Chibnall in Season 11. link

Doctor Who gets first openly gay companion The new series of Doctor Who will see the Time Lord joined by his first openly gay companion. Bill Potts's sexuality will be revealed pretty much straightaway in her second line of dialogue when the show returns to BBC One on 15 April. "It shouldn't be a big deal in the 21st Century. It's about time isn't it?" Pearl Mackie, who plays Bill, told the BBC. "That representation is important, especially on a mainstream show." She added: "It's important to say people are gay, people are black - there are also aliens in the world as well so watch out for them. "I remember watching TV as a young mixed race girl not seeing many people who looked like me, so I think being able to visually recognise yourself on screen is important." "[Being gay] is not the main thing that defines her character - it's something that's part of her and something that she's very happy and very comfortable with." Gay and bisexual characters have featured in Doctor Who before, such as Captain Jack and River Song, but this is the first time the Doctor's permanent companion has been openly gay. Although Captain Jack - played by John Barrowman - travelled with the Doctor for a number of episodes, he was not a full-time companion in the traditional sense. Mackie said it had been "kind of insane" to be the centre of attention since she was announced in the role last April, despite not being seen on screen until this Easter. "My Twitter follower count went from 400-and-something to 16,500 in about two hours, so that was pretty mental," said the actress, who is taking over from Jenna Coleman as the Doctor's companion. "But it's been really nice, everyone seems to be really excited. It's sort of like being welcomed into a family and all the fans have been really welcoming." link

Thanks for sharing this Starlight, this is terrific news for Doctor Who. I'm looking forward to seeing Pearl and her Bill. I never saw any gay or bisexual acton from River Song so that is confusing to me. We did see Madame Vastra and Jenny, as a Victorian lesbian couple happily married and devoted to one another, which was also a great call on the show's part.

I liked the new companion Bill who in one episode is well fleshed-out, which I enjoyed. Saw this today- I hope Capaldi is in plenty of episodes. On Graham Norton last night, Capaldi said he chose to leave because DW is a "factory" and I want to be able to learn and enjoy my lines again". So that tells us quite a lot IMO. "...But the Mirror understands that the next actor to become a Time Lord is Kris Marshall....And the new Doctor is set to join the show during the 10th series, which kicks off tonight, rather than in the Christmas special. Our source revealed: "Kris Marshall has already joined the cast and will regenerate at the end of this series, not in the Christmas special...." link

I had to Google Kris Marshall to see who he was.. then I realised that I do know his face from varies British TV shows. I will be kinda disappointed if he does indeed turn out to be the new Dr Who. I thought they would go in a completely different direction this time round.
