So I had the pleasure of getting to go see America's Got Talent a few years ago, one of their quarter final shows which was "live". I went with all of my kids and my spouse so there were 7 of us. It is filmed at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
You actually can get free tickets at on.camera at this URL. This company has free tickets for many other shows if you look around their site.

For those of you who have never seen a show filmed live, it was very interesting. It was a VERY long day. We got there at 3 pm and we were there until 10. Yes, a 7 hour day. Now for the interesting part. They do not sell food there and you are not allowed to bring food into the theater. If you do they will confiscate it and/or kick you out as they don't want people seeing audience members eating.
You are allowed to buy drinks from them, but you must drink them outside of the theater and are not allowed to bring them in.
A few tidbits about the filming and then I'll post some juicy pieces of info that we saw from the filming as well later this week.
1) The show is not all live. Certain acts are, but those that take time to set up are filmed in advance. We sat through them as if it were live, and acted as if it were live, but about 1/3 of the acts were not.
2) The signs you see people have in the audience for their favorites? None of them are brought to the theater. You are actually not allowed to do that. They start off the show saying the have signs for different acts and if you want one yell and scream and be one of the loudest. Those that do so are given a sign by a member of the staff, you have no idea whose sign you will have until it's handed to you.
3) You know how the host says everyone is on their feet? There are people on the sides holding up signs saying stand and applause after every act. You are also told to do that before the show starts. They give prizes during commercial breaks(tee shirts) for people who yell the loudest.
More to follow....feel free to ask any questions if you like....
