It has been officially cancelled and I think my hope in TV shows takes a huge gigantic hull-breaching hit.
What the fuck?
It seems that these days the shows that we get are; dog shit but popular, amazing but gets cancelled, or the good shows get twisted and fucked by their own writing team.
WHY BOTHER NOW.
(Edit/Add: I wanted to bitch cause it's the middle of the night and I can't sleep D:)

Hey Merelei. I loved this show as well. It was truly incredible in so many ways. But when I heard it cost them over 9 million dollars to make EACH EPISODE I knew the show was doomed. That is just way too much money for Netflix to spend on a show of theirs. I knew it was an expensive show with the 8 locations around the world, the huge cast, and the Wachowski's helming it(Matrix fame). But 9m per episode is up there with the most expensive shows made.
It's a shame because it was a fantastic show, with great characters, great writing(gasp), great drama and incredible action. It was inclusionary and really had it all.
I'd love to see someone else pick it up, but with that price tag don't see it happening unfortunately.

Thanks so much for sharing Ripley, I was just coming on line to post you beat me to it! There was quite a backlash on the show's cancellation as it was a true inclusionary show that so many people loved(myself included). Very happy to hear they are doing a 2 hour finale, and I wonder if they're going to be able to coordinate schedules to get everyone back as the cast is so huge. Fingers crossed! For those of you who have not seen it, I would strongly encourage you to, but know you're going to be confused until the second or third show. It was a fantastic show and very worthwhile.

A letter from Lana Wachowski about the 2 hour finale. You have to give credit to Netflix as we all know this is going to cost them a lot to make since it was 9 million for a regular episode. Nice that they gave this to the fans link

You and merelei have convinced me to add to my list of shows for the summer, so now I am quite intrigued. This show is sooo good Ripley. I've started watching it a few days ago and I'm hooked. I'm starting episode 11 right this minute.

Glad you found it and enjoy it sonia! I think the issue for many is the first few episodes are a bit confusing and hard to follow and people lose interest. But if you stick with it, it really is an incredible show. Too bad it costs 9m per episode making it fairly cost prohibitive to continue! The show really did get better in season 2 and season 2's ending was fantastic.

Sense8 and Outlander are the best shows I've seen in so long. I can't even remember when's the last show I saw before that was that good. There is absolutely no boring episode of Sense8. No filler. They are all great episodes.

Variety
" Lana Wachowski Wasn’t Sure About the Two-Hour Finale
Because Netflix never publishes ratings, it’s been free to hold on to TV shows for as long as it wants. In the last five years, the streaming giant hasn’t shown a tendency to dump many of its original series, until producers wanted for them to end. That changed in 2017, as the economics of programming more TV finally caught up with Netflix, which axed first-year series like “The Get Down,” “Girlboss,” and “Gypsy.”
What changed? “It wasn’t like we were setting out to cancel more shows,” Ted Sarandos says in this week’s Variety cover story about Netflix. “It was the idea of saying, ‘Are you being risky enough?’ The bad thing about renewing a show that isn’t being watched, it creates opportunity cost. And a lot of opportunity lost for fans to find something they are going to love.”

Sarandos revealed that Netflix’s preference is to allow showrunners to tie up loose ends for series with loyal followings. When they dropped the Wachowskis’ sci-fi series “Sense8” in June, they offered a two-hour finale, which was originally rebuffed by Lana Wachowski. “She would have liked to have gone on, but she wasn’t as excited about doing the two-hour [finale],” Sarandos says.
Yet Wachowski reconsidered after a wave of outcry on social media about the show stopping. “The fan influence on her was very helpful,” Sarandos says. “Her desire to have an ending increased a lot.”

Lana Wachowski, I'd rather have the series go on, too. TBH, I'm not sure, with everything that was going on in season 2 for the characters as a group AND individually, that it's possible to tie the series up in a satisfying way in 2 hours. The way the season ended lends itself to focusing on the group's fight with Whispers, which would leave the individual plots still hanging. If they, say, try wrapping the up quickly so as to address the other stuff, too, that overarching plot likely wouldn't be done justice, and the series would end in a non-cohesive way and with the biggest drama at the start.
Does anyone think the show can satisfyingly do both? (For the record, I'm a-ok with ignoring the Kenyan election subplot because of how uninteresting I find it and how unimpressed I am with the recast Capheus. I might have been willing to sit through the story despite, well, the story, if the show had found an actor who could project the character's previous joie de vivre. It was what distingued the character and made him enjoyable to watch, IMO.)
