Eugene now has a unique position at the Sanctuary: he's a resident nerd, he has the ear of the boss, he can pretty much do what he wants ~ but now Negan is slightly suspicious. This reminded me so much of Milton who was the resident nerd, a super smart guy who had difficulty killing walkers, who had the ear of the boss and could do what he wanted, and who, after the fire in the Walker pit, caused the Governor to be suspicious.
I haven't read the comics, so maybe Eugene's story will go down a different path but for now, it sure seems like he's headed towards a confrontation ~ and will be required to prove his loyalty to Negan. Sasha was almost Negan's "Andrea" (however reluctant she might've been), so I'm wondering if Eugene is Negan's "Milton"?

There is definitely some similarity in their use of intelligence as a protective measure/survival skill. I think we will see the emotional connections Eugene has made with the group will eventually cause him to defy the leader, also similar to the way Milton's story played out. One thing though, Milton only wanted to see Hershel's leg, Eugene likes to see a lot more...LOL!

Great catch darkandstormy ! He could be Negan's Milton of sorts and has behaved that way, coming up with solutions for the walkers on the fence adding molten metal, also figuring out how to fast clear the downed trees on the road. His helping Sasha suicide and Negan's suspicions about that make it clear Negan doesn't trust him entirely. The Governor trusted Milton right up until he burned the walkers in the pit. That point is when the Governor became suspicious and began setting up traps for Milton and seeing him as expendable. Milton for his part trusted The Governor completely until he learned a few realities about Woodbury and choices which led him to empathize and help Andrea escape. So the two sets of characters do seem to parallel each other and I hope with Eugene reuniting with Rick's group soon, after sabotaging The Saviors in AOW somehow.
