Uproxx "A British retailer, Primark, has been pressured to discontinue the sale of a The Walking Dead T-shirt after some in the UK deemed the shirt racist. The shirt contains a picture of Lucille — the baseball bat surrounded by barbed wire wielded by the show’s ubervillain, Negan — and the words “Eeny Meeny Miny Moe.” ...A spokesperson for Primark has apologized on behalf of the retailer. “The t-shirt in question is licensed merchandise for the U.S. television series, The Walking Dead, and the quote and image are taken directly from the show. Any offence caused by its design was wholly unintentional and Primark sincerely apologises for this.” Context matters. There was no racist intent behind the design of the T-shirt, and fans of the series would be unlikely to imply any. However, in a retail store where shoppers may be unfamiliar with the reference from The Walking Dead, it might be easy to confuse the rhyme with its racist history, especially as it is juxtaposed with a bloody baseball bat, which might be suggestive of something more nefarious to people outside of The Walking Dead circles. .." link(Via The Telegraph)..

Maybe I'm just very cynical but it's a pretty cheap way for them to get publicity instead of advertising. Not too long ago we had Jeremy Clarkson all over the media as he sang the racist version. It was massively controversial and I'm sure they will be well aware of that. It also takes a lot of focus off the fact that they pay people in developing countries 1p an hour and have them working in unsafe structures. Oh well, at least we know where to go to get cheap clothes.

I remember cringing when Negan started the eeny meeny thing. I'd like to say that I have never heard the racist version but that wouldn't be true. Mostly I've heart the "tiger by the toe" version but its roots are in old bad version. So I'm glad that they got called on it.

As soon as I read it in the comic years ago, I mentally cringed and wished Kirkman had not gone there. Racism apparently lives in the ZA as well as the current and past worlds. You make a good point about publicity cunningstunt.

Unfortunately, I only heard the "n" version of this rhyme when I was a child. I didn't know about the "tiger" version until late in my teens.

JDM response to this is just disappointing and insensitive. :-[ I was just now coming over to put that article here. I am not surprised in the least that he would say that. I really cannot stand him, not just for this but this is the cherry on top. I agree that Kirkman could have chosen a better rhyme to use.
