This isn't spoiler-y, so feel free to move it elsewhere. <3 LJ has been doing a lot of interviews lately. *suspicious* "One of the huge pleasures of being on the show is the complexities of the characters and what happens when certain characters are put together. Our show has the benefit of characters being able to change, being able to grow and be different than they were two seasons ago." Praising McBride's portrayal of Carol, James continued: "No character on our show epitomises that more than Carol and what Melissa has done with that character. She's completely transformed from the battered and frail housewife to a ninja killer. The best warrior that we have. Consequently, putting her together with Morgan who's [also] gone through his transformations means that as an audience, we're aware of their history and what's possible between them." Teasing what is in store for the frenemies, the 51-year-old said: "That means particularly in scenes with Melissa, we get so much for nothing that we don't even have to bring because it's already there for us. I love working with Melissa. I love what the writers are doing with the relationship between Morgan and Carol because it is complex, it is possibly deep and it could go well or it could really go wrong and both of the consequences of that would be really interesting. So as much as the fans hopefully, I'm looking forward to what happens with those two next." In fact, Carol and Morgan's growing bond has led some viewers to speculate whether their friendship could blossom into something romantic. Toying with the idea, James admitted: "I have no ide, but if there was any possibility of that, I think Daryl might have something to say about it. I always thought the coupling that the fans most wanted was Daryl and Carol. Only because of their joint name – their 'Brangelina' name would [still] be Carol or Daryl. It doesn't change [laughs]. I don't know whether there's any romance on the cards between Carol and Morgan, but it'd be another scene I'd quite like to [film]." Full interview: ibtimes

You do have to love how the actors still hype up the writing for their characters even when the writing is beyond bad. I hate hate the Morgan v Carol crap. It's the reason I didn't watch The Well. and why have lost interest in Carol's story. So I will be over the moon when Morgan is forced into another characters story in season 8. Hopefully it will be Rick. AlienSoul I don't think it suspicious that Lennie is doing interviews. They seems to be UK based and Lennie is probably in the UK. Also maybe the other cast aren't that interested in promoting 7b that much.

LJ: "That means particularly in scenes with Melissa, we get so much for nothing that we don't even have to bring because it's already there for us." I hate it when actors talk this way. Other thoughts: I like the way he answered the shipping spec. He can't shut it down completely so he deflects and compliments his co star at the same time. I feel like because there's no individual story for Carol or Morgan this season, they're trying to "big up" their frenemy status like a poorly acted red shirt. It's not that deep, and they'll probably never be that close. It sure would be nice if they allowed MMB to do an interview once in a while, instead of LJ talking about her. I kind of wonder if mmbs enthusiasm for the show is just dead

I kind of wonder if mmbs enthusiasm for the show is just dead Since MMB has basically been reduced to a viewer with occasional guest star status, losing her enthusiasm for the show wouldn't be a shocker. I'm hoping she's okay with this because she's been promised a more prominent arc with more screen time next season.

Meggo358 that answer from LJ sounds to me like he isn't bringing his A game to their scenes because he doesn't think he needs to. I think due to Melissa having no matherial to work with this year. and her being completely backburned more than all the other mains. Her enthusiasm must be at a low. She hasn't done that may interviews this year. I wonder if we will even see her on TTD this year, because it looks like she won't be getting any big episodes.

That's a nice thought - if she's getting paid for each ep regardless if filming I guess it's a cushy gig. I like to think that you're right about next season, but I gotta say this season finale would have to be absolutely mind blowing for me to stay enthusiastic to want to stick around to find out

Hmm, good question. I think there are things for the show on a larger scale but for Carol specifically (and I guess I have to refer to all of 7b as opposed to the SF only): 1. Her decision to snap out of her current state to make sense and be about more than just TF 2. An unambiguous outcome in terms of her role in the group and the groups concern for her 3. A tease of a strategic role in the group moving forward, whether it's at asz or kingdom 4. Her to do something fucking badass 5. The small amount of screentime she has in 7b to be time well spent, not just filler im sure we'll get #4. The rest remains a mystery

Could be - I'm not BFFs with LJ but I kind of doubt that's the point he's trying to get across. i agree with you about MMB - the decision to dismantle and reduce carols story was such a lousy choice

I think part of the reason Lennie James is getting so many interviews for 7-B is because Morgan and Carol were not really part of the Negan show with all of the resulting bad press that received. Carol and Morgan's whereabouts and plotlines were the only things TPTB could keep secret ahead of 7-A and the show was roundly criticized by fans and some critics for that absence. So now, I think it is something which gives James something to do, builds up the Morgan-Carol relationship (more of a "detenteship" IMO.I'm sure James is just happy to have something he can talk about and for his thoughts to be desired and discussed.
It's nice clickbait for IBT, because it throws the Cargen shippers a bone, praises Melissa McBride and gets some readers wishing February 12th would get here faster and thus more hits for their site and more ad revenue for those who click through to read it

I moved this to the Kingdom section as there are no spoilers in it. Once Morgan gets his separate subform, I'll move it there.
Thanks!

I personally loved this interview. A couple of points: LJ: "That means particularly in scenes with Melissa, we get so much for nothing that we don't even have to bring because it's already there for us." to me it means: it's already there for us" means the dynamic and the motive is evident in the actions and the dialogue. they don't have to interpret what they're supposed to bring to the scene. Love the deflection of the shipping question and the Caryl bit (of course I did) and his laugh when the interviewer brought up corgan. I know many hate this arc and I am not a fan of it either, but I do like the idea of them coming to an understanding. We've been over this several times so I won't belabor the point again. I LOVE that he LOVES working with Melissa. Did I mention I love listening to him talk? As to why he's doing more interviews, I agree with Ripley. The morgan Carol story line is one of the few they can talk about that isn't just a repeat of "Daryl goes Dark" "geting the band back together" blah blah blah... it is something new. Thanks for posting this.

I hate the way the Morgan/Carol story played out last season, but I'm feeling better about it now even though they glossed over the part about Morgan losing his temper and attacking Carol. I just want it over now.
I really, really resent any suggestion of a parallel between Morgan's losses and Carol's. It's true that both feel guilt about not being able to save a child and both reacted to that in different ways, but Morgan had a happy marriage and Carol was a survivor of domestic violence and had a husband who she was afraid would hurt her child. There's no indication that Jenny was anything other than a loving mother even if her walker did kill her son at the end.
