Vanity Fair- "...“I’m glad she’s taking a little time for herself,” McBride said, adding that she couldn’t imagine what it would be like to endure all of the changes and horrors the group has been forced to weather. Everyone deals with that in their own ways, McBride said, and for Carol this season, that’s meant isolating herself. Still, McBride notes that the key to surviving this apocalypse might be exactly what her character is trying to flee from. “When you’ve lost everything, there’s still much to be had—there are people. When you find people you care about, that’s an amazing thing. I mean, that’s it.” For Carol, that has meant committing several atrocities, McBride noted. So now, as we’ve seen, she’s shunning her natural human impulse toward connection in an attempt to save herself the burden of forming relationships. That said, “you can’t run from it,” McBride added. “I just want to hug her . . . I want her to come around. But I get how it is.”... link

Although McBride is, of course, sworn to secrecy, she did confirm that fans will get to see more of Carol than they did in the season’s first half, which relegated her to two episodes. Coming out of the midseason finale, Instead of 2 episodes we will get 3 episodes featuring Carol in 7b... one whole episode extra... if she appear in episode 9.I'm not counting a 1 minute appearance as a real appearance.

Why stifle one of the best characters in the first place?

Yeah, she's a main character, one of 4 left from season 1, and we've seen her for 25% of the season (if you calculate by episode alone). Not cool.

I hate that when they say we'll see more of her, it probably means she'll be in one more episode than in 7a. They know people are irritated by her not being around, but they don't care. Because comic and stuff.

I don't give a damn that they want to expand the world of TWD, show different communities and new characters. It might work well in theory, but it doesn't work when we go episodes without seeing our favorites, our core group. This is a show. They're supposed to want us to keep watching and no one will want to watch a whole new show with brand new characters 70% of the time. eta: gia. At least they're paying attention judging by this interview and the heavy promotion they did for the MSF. To the fact that we miss Carol. That we miss the core characters (A4+M^2). That we miss them being together. I don't have much hope for S7, but maybe S8 will be better... Maybe...

Because comic and stuff. I think it was a couple of things: The steadfast desire to make this season as faithful as possible to the comics, which requires a version of the comic michonne arc (what you said) The idea that TWD universe would revolve around negan and the rest of the characters could be reasonably shuffled around and the audience wouldn't care because we'd all be too busy being enthralled by Negans dangerous charisma (yawn) The idea that Carol was a popular enough character to carry the introduction of the kingdom I think at the end of the day it comes down to the show thinking the audience would really just care about Negans stuff at this point. I have no idea why they would think that or why it didn't occur to them to redesign some things for a different audience and medium (coughglenndyingcough) Im personably annoyed less by the lack of Carol screentime and more by the lack of meaningful screentime. The Well was great, and there were hints that Ezekiel's words were getting through to Carol. But we know it won't be until sometime after ep 10 that she'll be getting her ass in gear in any way...and when she does, it'll simply be Carol getting back to the journey she was originally on. This entire crisis of conscience IMO was completely unfounded and just an interruption to what had been a great story

So it's a real question mark if she filmed or not.

"However long it takes, it seems inevitable that we’ll see Carol back in action one way or another. (The Walking Dead’s TV adaptation has created too much of a badass to stifle her forever, right?)" Why stifle one of the best characters in the first place? I think there is a few reasons like SG and Co completely miscalculating the audience and fans reaction to Negan..They believed that the audience would fall in love with Negan like the comic fans did. The story between Carol and Morgan was really unpopular last season. I made a prediction that Morgan would be really backburned in season 7 after the reaction to his character in seadon 6 and it looks like that prediction came true. And the big one being, that SG has no real interest in The Kindgom / Ezekiel . It's like he just added it to the show, because it existed in the comics and they wanted Shiva on the screen. The Kindgom has no real story. The Richard murder arc looks to be a complete rush job, because SG had nothing really planned for location other than the comic stuff... TF come ask Ezekiel for help he says "No".... but everyone knows Morgan and Carol will convince him help... SG rather create a whole new group The Junkyard group and introduce the oceanside group early.. Than spend time at The Kindgom and it's characters . Also Carol's character has been put on a huge stand still.. since her development was put on hold for Morgan's return. So now SG is just dragging it out until he needs Carol to come back.

I did enjoy The Well but I think we should have seen more of Morgan and Carol than that until the MSF. Obviously Carol is softening toward him (asking him how he was doing-actually talking to him). I would have liked to see how he was doing at the Kingdom and how Carol was dealing with her demons. Nightmares? Anger? Remorse. Short segments, not taking up a huge chuck of those 90 minutes monologues of Negan. I also wanted that for Maggie and Sasha this first half. I've seen more of Rosita, Enid, and Tara than I have of Maggie, Sasha, Carol, and Morgan. Lennie James and Melissa McBride deserve more attention than that. Same goes for L. Cohan, and SMG. Carol has to snap back into warrior mode. It's the ZA after all. I just hope we see that moment in which she accepts what has to be to survive and keep the ones she loves alive. It is time for TPTB to have a chat with Gimple-Kirkman and remind them that ads pay the bills and more viewers means more money. Daryl is not the only character that viewers want to see. TWD isn't just Rick's story either. He's the protagonist but TWD is also the story of all the people in Rick's life that he cares about. We've watched them for seven years and we want to see them more than two times in eight episode.

Needless to say, the critic is not a fan of how Negan was handled this season. And I do think Carol is popular enough to hold viewers attention at the Kingdom IF 1. She was given a better storyline that didn't have her moping around an old house 2. They actually showed the damn kingdom, and especially King Ezekiel who surprisingly got a warm welcome from fans. But nope, Carol isn't seen or mentioned except for 2 episodes (I'm not going to count the 2 second shot we got of her in the premiere) and it will be 14, maybe 15 WEEKS between sightings of Zeke. In what world does any of this make sense? Gimple's a hack.

Film spoilers tell us we may* get a bit of Carol in 7.09 but I'm not counting on much there. We know 7.10 will have significance for Carol as will 7.14 and the finale.
I prefer significant time for Carol on-screen rather than her simply being in the background shot of a scene (like Glenn in later seasons) and having that count for her.
Assigning this part of the Michonne comic storyline to Carol has not been a good thing for the show merely because many casual viewers love Carol in "badass" mode rather than questioning herself and wounded emotionally.
Morgan could have taken this aspect of the comic and been our introduction to The Kingdom IMO, perhaps brooding over his decision to kill to save Carol's life last season. She would have been very powerful at ASZ, helping Rick and Michonne adjust to life under Negan after the lineup and dealing with some of her own guilt for not having been there. Still would have made compelling story for her.Morgan isn't as loved by viewers as in earlier years, but they could have found a way to get another TF member there for a while to compensate.
I believe the show's decision to stack the PR emphasis on Negan and only the lineup was a mistake although I understand why the decision was made to keep all info about Morgan and Carol secret through the summer and at SDCC, because it was the only big secret which could be kept. AMC knew that spoilers would reveal the Lucille victims well ahead of October and that filming spoilers would spoil the fandom, while keeping The Kingdom's secrets intact other than what TWD wanted to use to entice fans back for season 7.
I hope someone in New York is looking at the PR campaigns for Spring and next season, during this holiday hiatus and making some decisions more in tune with the viewer base the show has and wants to keep. Otherwise, this might all be repeated in a year, which would be a shame and quite annoying to live through.

Was The kindgom / Ezekiel and The Well actually a hit for the show.. The online fans / critics loved the episode. but the show lost 700k after that episode... That was the biggest drop for episode par the usual drop of from a premiere. If the GA had loved that episode they would have stick around to watch episode 3 as most GA had no idea that The Cell was just a Savior's episode.... And RK actually commented on the lack of Ezekiel at NYCC. Saying that he hoped fans didn't forget who he was.. kinda throwing shading at SG.

Starlight I think the critics enjoyed The Well, but it did little for the GA, and didn't inspire confidence in the writing going forward. I'm a huge Carol fan, and I loved King Ezekiel's speech about how he became King and earned the love of Shiva, but a lot we got in the episode was unbelievable, and showed viewers tptb didn't learn from the mistakes made in season 6. I not surprised by the huge drop.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall Ripley reminding us that, historically, Carol tends to appear in more episodes than she was spotted filming. With any luck, that trend will continue this season.

I meant on their site(TSDF).They have removed the ? and it just shows as she's in 9,10,14,16. I was confused as how they arrived at that conclusion. That's a question to ask Ninja pammielf , since only she knows what she was thinking which led to changing the original question mark by Carol's name, of course. Edit: I'm sure it wasn't changed lightly.

"However long it takes, it seems inevitable that we’ll see Carol back in action one way or another. (The Walking Dead’s TV adaptation has created too much of a badass to stifle her forever, right?)" Why stifle one of the best characters in the first place? It is baffling. You have an actress who has won awards and critical acclaim for the role and TPTB response to this is "let's sideline her for two whole seasons". The more normal typical response would be "let's give her more screen time and a meatier story arc". It's like the producers are living in some sort of alternate entertainment universe.

As Ripley stated, originally there was a question mark by carol's name because she was not physically spotted. It was assumed she filmed since the rest of the kingdom folks were seen. As to why they changed it, maybe they feel more confident she is in the ep. Since this forum is not tsdf, we can't speak for why they do the things they do. Your best bet is to ask them. As for me personally as a viewer and Carol fan, I'm not counting on anything but confirmed sightings and will take anything else as a bonus.

I suspect this interview is part of tptb moving to try to mitigate the damage this season to their viewership. Many of the critical reviews have cited that they can't understand why Carol and Morgan have been sidelined. So it makes sense that MMB is out there reminding the public that she will be more visible the next half. The key word is more. That won't be difficult because she was only in two episodes and given that the last episode was ninety minute it does seem as if they could have given us more than glimpse of Carol, Morgan, and Richard. I don't understand why they didn't give us more hint that Richard might have a plot to motivate Ezekiel by using Carol/Morgan. It would make us worry that she is in danger all these months. Richard thinks that Carol is weak. Morgan tells him that Carol was probably the best fighter in that room, but she's never turned her defenses on her own group. Not counting Kavid-that was Carol being proactive to the nth degree. Carol is a major character played by an excellent actress and she probably is chomping at the bit to get more than she has been given this year.

I suspect the reason we are getting so little on Richards plan is because 1.It's a rush job story done to add something to The kindgom because SG had nothing really planned for the place story wise . And 2 They want to use it as a shock moment for Daryl finding out Carol is alive.
