in response to the panic out there around Chandler's decision to attend Auburn etc. "...”I think Carl is the future of the show,” Payne said, before correcting himself. “I mean, is the future of the comic books, I think.” “At the end of the day, I think Carl is the guy at the end on the last page,” he continued. “And I don’t know if they’ll go that way on the TV show, but I think it would be a logical place for them to go.”.... ...As HuffPost reported, “Walking Dead” comic creator Robert Kirkman already said Carl is his favorite character, and as Forbes notes, Carl still has a big role to play in the Negan storyline. I'm not really worried about Carl, with all of these different communities and so many characters it will be manageable to shoot around him. I don't expect the show will wrap up ina neat bow, but there should be some changing of the guard, much like every generation goes through now, which should leave us with Carl in a position to take up the reins.
I harbor some thoughts that the Carl we'll be left with will be a composite of Rick and some of the more influential characters. We've already got the sheriff's hat and the eye patch (The Gov)wonder if Carl will absorb any other traits/characteristics oe even if some throwbacks pop up as we go forward.
