Negan is definitely a polarizing figure. Did the Governor gets this strong of a reaction? I wasn't a Governor fan, but he didn't annoy me like Negan does. However, I don't remember the Governor getting the love that Negan gets from some fans. IMO, love him or hate him, Negan's going to be around for a long time.

I don't remember the gov ever getting this kind of reaction. Most were not happy about the back to back gov bottle eps after Carol was banished and felt (I agree with this btw) that the two eps could have been combined into one but there wasn't the calls that he was "hammy" and we never really "boring"(other than the complaints about the gov eps). He felt sinister because we could see his slide into madness. he was VERY different from his comic counterpart and that upset many comic fans. He wasn't "great" either but Dm did a great job with the character as he was written for the show.

There wasn't the total oversaturation of the Governor - of DM, everywhere too. I think that makes a big difference too. DM was never shoved in my face on every branch of the show, scene and non-scene. I didn't think he was being propelled higher than the other main characters. I liked the Governor but really wasn't a fan of his solo episodes, especially as they were back to back and kept me away from the story of the rest of the characters. My partner really liked those episodes though. But either way, that was the last of it. One last indulgent run of the Governor before we say goodbye to that character. It's easier to allow and enjoy for what it is. It didn't build resentment (other than Carylers who I think knew Daryl finding out was being held back to keep people watching. But even still, I didn't feel that annoyance translated to The Governor too much? And especially not past the episode)
Also, this may just be my bias giving me a faulty perception, but I feel like the Governor was the Governor. It wasn't DM as the Governor. You respected him for what the character he was, because that was the focus. It wasn't about DM, who is also much more likable than JDM as far as I'm concerned.
And I'm sorry, not to be too judgement, but look at those comments. The pros are banal as fuck and talk about how hot he is...
I really do wonder how they're all taking the lack of Negan love/the criticism of Negan. Oh to be a fly on the wall witnessing the freak out and the denial.

I noticed the bangability factor in the comments murph . DM had those episodes as a gift from AMC after his pilot wasn't taken to series, since Scott Gimple (new showrunner following the Mazzara outline) was also exploring comic twists and non-comic stories at that time. Nicole Beattie and Curtis Gwinn wrote those episodes. Back then, The Governor was included in key art & a few interviews, but it wasn't the PR blitz we've experienced since season 6B. I'm in the "he's annoying" camp and agree he talks too much.

47% is generous, and since this year's election, I have very little faith in the accuracy of polls.
It was the 7months of nothing but Negan talk and Negan promo during hiatus, followed by Negan, Negan, Negan down our throats all season. I'd have to argue that the actual Annoying Factor is much higher than what this poll represents.

The ones that praise him are women who think JDM is hot or emasculated fanboys who live with their mothers. I really give the side eye to the men who are fans of Negan.

I don't find Negan terrifying as a character. I see him more as a bully with a small dick. Who has to hurt people to make himself feel like a real man. So I disagree on the poll

I don't know what it's been like for the rest of the country, but where I live Negan has been the sole character advertised on billboards. Not Rick, the show's lead, or even the characters in the line up, just Negan. At the end of the day, Negan's one of my least favorite characters, although I loved him in the finale, but he has many many fans for various reasons. So while I do wonder how tptb are taking the negative reactions, I can also see them putting their focus on pleasing the fans who love him.

Oh how I wish TPTB would think about pleasing the rest of us! Since they put all the season 7 🍳 in the Negan basket, I guess they are focusing on the few who like him more than the critics. It hasn't taken long for the Critics and fandom to loathe Negan-just 7 eps into 7 and 4 episodes total with Negan in there: 6.16, 7.01, 7.03 & 7.04. Thanks for the billboard photo Sexual Chocolate!

I've noticed that my attraction to JDM has dropped a lot since the Negan saturation. Not just his looks but his acting too. I was watching old eps of SPN the other night and had to fast forward through poppa winchester scenes.

So I disagree on the poll That's exactly how I feel about him. I don't find him masculine or sexy AT ALL. He's very weak because he has to find his strength in torturing others. To be terrifying, there has to be an air of power there. Negan lacks this trait. There's a quote from Toni Morrison that goes something like, "If the only way for you to feel tall is to put everyone else on their knees, then you have a problem." He's definitely overcompensating for something. I've always said that Negan must have a microscopic dick. He carries Lucille around because that's his faux penis.

The women posting that they think Negan is hot, sexy, gorgeous ect? I suspect that they probably write love letters to prison inmates. Come on, he really isn't all that attractive. He's evil and thinks way too much about a baseball bat. I can only repeat what I always say when I see a Hummer on the road, "Nobody's dick is that small". We watched him (in agonizing detail) beat two men to death with enjoyment. That's a line that they should not have crossed and they are now celebrating and promoting his sadism. I loved TWD because it was about ordinary people surviving a world that tries to kill them at every hand. I don't want to watch Negan's back story. I just want him dead and I want the main characters to fight to regain their own humanity.

Its not about Negan being "sexy" as much as they are projecting JDM himself or his other characters on to Negan. As for the women that find JDM attractive, well to each their own. that is a matter of personal taste.

I think it's way too much, the over saturation of promotion, the smugness, and good god, the talking. I am so tired of Negan's Ted Talks. I get it, please hurry and do your thing so I can hate you without you boring me to death on top of it. And the fact that he's always mugging it up annoys me even more. Congrats, you're a prick, we get it. I find nothing sexy or attractive about a man who beat in the heads of two beloved characters. Who then went on to torture an abuse victim. And then who I feel like violates a woman's right to say no by holding her family's safety or medical survival over their heads. Something about that isn't...I don't know...sexy?
I think JDM is an attractive man. I think he can act. I know he was excited about this role as were fans. What I didn't like personally was some smug moments during interviews with JDM about Negan and two cast members leaving. It turned me off. But I am just one person.

I'm on Tumblr a lot and see their posts about wanting to go down on Negan and do all kinds of sex acts with him, ect. I'm dumbfounded. I finally had to ask one of them, what you find attractive about Negan? Is it just his face or is it the fact that he's a raping sadist do it for you? She really never answered me because she knew how sick she sounded but she did concede that she likes to be "ruffed up"...She's definitely the type of fall in love with and marry serial killers. Lots of damaged women in this world. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I agree that JDM is not that handsome (he hasn't aged well and he's really skinny). I think Andy Lincoln/Rick Grimes is gorgeous but lots of people think he's average or even ugly, so go figure. It's more about the personality traits for me anyway. And let me correct you...there is an over abundance of small dicks out there (LOL)

This is the biggest role JDM has ever had and I think it's gone to his head. He has come across as smug on more than one occasion. I really hated that the Negan talk took over the interviews and cons this year. What I really didn't like is him saying that Negan wasn't all that bad, making excuses for him, and blaming Rick and Co. for what happened to them in the finale (like Negan had a right to kill them as if his crew were some innocent lambs). I was never a fan and continue to be unimpressed by his acting ability. I'm bummed that I'll have to sit through two seasons of him. He needs to go back to the Good Wife so I don't have to look at or hear him anymore.

If I can - yes, a lot of people do find sadism aspects sexy, or more specifically in this case, masochism, but it does not automatically translate to finding Negan sexy. Those two groups for the most part are not the same group. People actually practicing responsible S&M in their sex lives are not gonna be all over Tumblr talking about how hot Negan is. They'll most likely be rolling their eyes at him and his fans. For the most part, the ones doing the Negan love fall into the simple/surface aspect. JDM = is a hot man. That's the only thought that matters and it typically falls into fangirl mentality. It lacks fully rational logic or perspective. It stops at JDM = hot. Also, there's the idea that Negan is a strong, take control, powerful, charismatic, confident, smiling, affecting man. That thought doesn't go much further into the surroundings either. It's not about the rape and torture, most of those fans don't even recognise/acknowledge the existence of the rape in Negan's behaviour.

You also have the group of fan girls that have a very distorted view of S&M culture thanks to 50 shades of grey. It a kink no different than the way some fetishize homosexuality (ie rick and every other white male character). I can't say that there are not fans that are into the "rape "scenario, but they are not talking about actual rape, (a few may be... but there are reasons for that that I will not go into here) what they are doing is romantising being over having someone be so sexually attracted to them they can't "control" themselves. It has nothing to do with rape, but a twisted view (see 50 shades) of what rape is. If anyone wants to discuss this further, please pm me about it. There are also fans that love Negan because he is Negan and they are not part of this blurb. Finally, there are fans that just really dig the "bad" guy. Joker, Loki, ect. Some find those characters to be dark and sexy and what not. to each their own. I'm more of a Cap fan myself..
