hiddenremote.com/2016/11/19/norman-reedus-daryl-dixon-cries-walking-dead/7/‘The Walking Dead’ features a lot of heartbreak, but nothing has broken our hearts more than Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon’s ugly cry face. From character deaths to moments that tug at our heart strings, AMC’s The Walking Dead has made us cry hundreds of times. However, few things are more depressing than becoming attached to a character and seeing him (or her) suffer. This is true for just about any character in the series, but there’s something about Norman Reedus’ character, Daryl Dixon, that we just love.

I wouldn't say that Daryl crying makes me cry.His crying face reminds me of a cabbage patch doll. Saying that I don't have a problem with the scenes the journalist picked. All those moments were big moments for Daryl. The Cherokee Rose scene was the scene that showed everyone that there was more to Daryl than many thought.... Him finding Merle the brother he thought he lost and found as a walker was heartbreaking as was the scene with him looking at Glenn's pic. Interesting out of the list finding Carol was the only moment Daryl cried happy tears...

Daryl has never made me cry, but he's definitely made me feel heavy emotions because when Norman's on, he's on. The problem is he's often more off than on. On top of that, I think both Norman and tptb have allowed the line between Norman and Daryl to be blurred, if not downright crossed, and that's been a disservice to the character. But when NR cuts out the bullshit, and he allows himself to get lost in Daryl, he can do amazing things on screen.

But when NR cuts out the bullshit, and he allows himself to get lost in Daryl, he can do amazing things on screen. He really is hit and miss with his acting. Sometimes (cherokee rose scene, Merle's death, Finding out Carol was banished, his scenes with Melissa) he is so on I forget I'm not a fan of his. He does much better with non verbal acting much of the time, but there have been a few times he got to me. the above mentioned, back in season one when he found Merle's hand, his scene with Maggie in the barn in season 5, his scenes in Cell. were all very good work from him. I'd even say his little speech about being Nothing, no one in still (good lord that was the only damn thing good in that ep). its when he goes for the exaggerated acting/super hero shots/ walker kills or gets paired with a less than stellar actor (which highlights his weakness as an actor) that I lose interest and get taken out of the scene. he can do emotional scenes well if partnered with the right person.

I'm going to disagree *a touch* with the acting with bad actors thing. First, he was excellent in the banishment scene... And I think my opinion of AL's skills -- yes, I know not shared by many --is well-known. Second, I actually think he was very strong in Still but that EK's hack attempt at playing Beth created an unfortunate juxtaposition. He wasn't amazing in the porch scene, but what could any actor do opposite EK there? I'm not sure even MMB could have salvaged that... And have been taken out of her scenes opposite EK in the past, too, precisely because of the juxtaposition of performances. That said, yes, he seems to get lazy at times, more so with passing seasons, particularly in scenes that seem OOC for Daryl, and the action scenes are embarrassing.
All that said, in specific regard to crying at the sight of daryl's cry face, it does make me *want* to cry but for all the wrong reasons. It should stay buried in Carol's neck where it belongs (and I can't see it). That way, she can pretty cry, and I can not cringe at the horrible sight of that cry face, even as I know Daryl's suffering (or happy). He may withdraw his face, as he did in No Sanctuary, once he has tears but the facial contortion itself has resolved. Not all cry faces are meant to be televised...

What's wrong with his cry face in The Cell? His cry face when he found Merle is one thing (I had no problem with it, but I can understand why some found it amusing), but he was perfectly fine when he cried for Beth and in The Cell. IMO, he looks like a kid when he cries and I find it a little heartbreaking.
And honestly, I don't always find Carol's cry face so pretty either. Or Rick's.

IMO, of course, MMB is a pretty crier. Even her ugly cry is pretty. My ugly cry looks like the face of an angry moose in rutting season. It's a sight to behold.

I like that he goes completely full on with it. Some actors hold back because they don't want to ruin their make up..but I doubt that's how Norman cries in RL...I just think actors cry faces should look natural... you can tell when actor is completely faking aka Emily kinney who's crying that sounded like she was laughing...
