Over at ONTD, they're discussing this facebook post made by William Riggs, Chandler's Father After concerned fans bombarded his account with fear for Carl's fate, the post was removed - it's now been re-posted. Later Gina Riggs, posted her own message So what say you? Much to do about nothing or where there's smoke there's fire?

Maybe hoping for a huge uproar, which would strengthen new contract negotiations? I'm cynical, lol.

I would not be sad to see Carl go.

I don't think Carl's going anywhere, yet, but I can see how his dad's post got people wondering. And reckon, at this point nothing would surprise me.

Since we've seen other mentions of the cast completing the original contracts (@frankburn's salary topic) I think Carl will be fine and Chandler will film less in the fall next year. That will be his first year at Auburn but I'm confident they'll work out something for him. After AOW Carl leaves the ASZ to do blacksmith training elsewhere anyway.
It's a huge deal for a child actor to complete a 7 year contract, given the changes of puberty, challenges with schooling etc. so no worries see William Riggs was pleased about it even if his post scared some people.

I think Chandler does an amazing job as Carl, he grew up on that set, and the accomplishment is very much deserved. I had enough trouble at school as it was and I couldn't do what he's done.

I think his parents have done a great job, arranging things so that Chandler could attend a last 2 years of high school, reconnect with kids his age and enjoy some high school experience after years of set tutors, etc. That his family has worked so hard to make sure he can work on the show but also be a kid and typical teenager is fantastic IMO. He had one summer- the filming of seaosn 5-A in which he had time off, by arrangement, so he could attend church camp for 2 weeks and also take a family trip, which they had been unable to do since TWD started. I agree with you, merelei, high school can be a nightmare for so many of us- I cannot imagine having to film and work almost every summer on something as intense as TWD.

I'm not worried about Carl going anywhere. I don't think Gimple uses him very well, and he'll probably film less next year with college, but he'll still be there.
I like Carl and CR has really grown as an actor. He's not great, but he's gotten better than he was in the earlier seasons. (minus the Judith formula scene in S4)

Truthfully if he left I wouldn't mind. The show could easily do a big time jump and replace CR with a more capable actor.but that's not going to happen.

Props to Chandler and his parents for how well he and they have handled his being a child actor, and the positives and negatives that come with it. Making the long-term well-being of the child the priority is key to preventing so many tragic outcomes we've seen in the past, imo. Chandler is an excellent role model on how to handle work and fame at any age, tbh.

Don't toy with me like this. He's not going anywhere. He'll just hang around and continue his petulant ways and never get any repercussions.

Carl will probably be super duper mega ultra grounded in season 8 for sneaking into Negan's base. That way CR can focus on his education. Problem solved.

Chandler Riggs concentrating on his education works for me. Carl didn't make the top 30 on the TWD favorite list. He was cute as a little kid but I have found him particularly tiresome the last couple of years. Way too much screen time.

I wouldn't miss him. Just not a very good actor. Maybe his dad could get him to take some much needed acting lessons.
