"...But with that said, the Fear the Walking Dead writing team needs to be understand their audience at this point. I would say that there are probably zero people watching Fear the Walking Dead who haven’t at least watched some chunk of the five seasons of the original show. This has always been one of the problems with a “prequel” series, and something I’ve worried about since I heard about the concept of the spin-off. The problem is that audiences are way, way ahead of all the characters at this point. We understand zombies. We understand what these people are going to have to do to survive. We understand the types of people they’re probably going to turn into as they experience the rigors of the apocalypse. But now we’re in a situation where it’s going to be exhausting if we have to go through the motions of watching a character like Travis transform from mewling pacifist to zombie-killing machine. Let me guess, there will be a situation where he’s forced to blow a zombie’s head off to save someone he loves. Or he’ll let a zombie go and it will come back and kill someone later. Or someone will get bit and he will have to execute them before they turn..." Full article text
