Oh I so agree ... his self aggrandizing speech was partly the reason later winners got the 'cue to quit' too early IMO. Jimmy Fallon was a 'no show' IMO - he couldn't handle the teleprompter issue??? Puhleez! He's a comedian for cripe's sake - he have dug into his repertoire. Kristin Wiig and Steve Carell - priceless! I was surprised as well. Not only who/what won/didn't win but Brad Pitt's appearance as presenter. Anyone who hasn't seen La La Land had to feel a bit like those who hadn't seen The Artist a few years ago. Ruth Negga's dress was gorgeous. La La Land is far better than The Artist but I think the gimmick is going to take it all the way to best picture even though Moonlight and Arrival, imo were better films

DGA nominations: Best FeatureDAMIEN CHAZELLE - La La Land GARTH DAVIS - Lion BARRY JENKINS - Moonlight KENNETH LONERGAN - Manchester by the Sea DENIS VILLENEUVE - Arrival Best First Time FeatureGARTH DAVIS - Lion KELLY FREMON CRAIG - The Edge of Seventeen TIM MILLER - Deadpool NATE PARKER - The Birth of a Nation DAN TRACHTENBERG - 10 Cloverfield Lane. I think Lion might be a Best Picture contender now with these nominations. I don't think Deadpool or Birth of a Nation should be here, I'm sure there were better directed first features out there but

The Oscar nominations were announced today. La La Land ties All About Eve and Titantic with a record 14 nominations. Surprises include Michael Shannon and Ruth Negga bad surprises include Passengers and Suicide Squad being nominated. Snubs currently pissing me off: No Sing Street in Best Song, no Amy Adams in Arrival, no Jackie for Best Picture Full list: time.com/4635815/2017-oscars-nominations-list/

I'm glad for Michael Shannon and Ruth Negga. To be fair, I have not seen all the nominated films/nominated performances but at first glance, #OscarsStillSoWhite, with mostly the usual crowd nominated. Is my perspective on the top 4 awards skewed dark sister in terms of who and what actually deserve the awards? Best Picture seems the most balanced, and diverse of the 4 categories.

Ok. Le I'm reading news stories it or seems a bit less dire. I hadn't known that "Barry Jenkins, the writer and director behind “Moonlight,” could become the biggest story of awards season should he nab Best Director at the 89th Academy Awards next month. His win would mark the first time a black man had ever done so. But when the nominations were announced on Tuesday, Jenkins quietly made a little history along the way as well, becoming the first black writer-director to get nominated for not only Best Picture and Best Director but Best Screenplay, too. All in all, “Moonlight” nabbed eight nominations, tying “Arrival” for second most among all films after “La La Land.”" Barry Jenkins Quietly Makes History With Oscar Nomination Trifecta www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/barry-jenkins-oscar-nominations_us_58875de7e4b0e3a7356bb123

There's a lot of diversity with this year's nominees.

Asghar Farhadi is currently nominated for a Best Foreign Film Oscar for The Salesman. He won an Oscar in that category previously for A Separation (great film) and now he can't attend the Oscars because of Trump's Mulsim ban.

The kids of Stranger Things were so happy! And WR's facial expressions during Hap's acceptance speech - I laughed!
I loved Lily and Dolly.

OITNB won three in a row. I still don't think they should be winning for comedy, but

Up your Oscars red carpet fun by checking out BTVS alum Tom Lenk and IG Lenk Lewks for Less. Recently profiled by the NYT, Lenk recreates celeb style from household items. He's hilarious and scary with a glue gun. http://instagram.com/p/BQ_n6XIDn8C

Yeah, the Oscars were quite enjoyable and fun...until that very last major boo-boo. Wow is right. I always go to an Oscar party, and it was fun to watch with everyone, and really stunning to all of us at the end there.

From what I am reading about the Best Picture "SNAFU", Bonnie and Clyde were given the wrong card. They apparently were handed another Emma Stone best actress card. Clyde was showing it to Bonnie and she announced "La La Land" before Clyde could stop her. Yikes! Probably should have stopped right there until that was straightened out before saying "La La Land." Faye Dunaway said she would not speak of it when queried (probably many times) by reporters later.
Emma Stone said she was holding her card for her win the entire time.
The Price Waterhouse peeps have some 'splainin' to do.
Here's another "SNAFU" that happened in The Memoriam portion:
"As some in the Australian film industry were celebrating two Oscar wins for Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge, others were lamenting another Oscar snafu. In the annual In Memoriam segment, a photo of veteran Australian film producer Jan Chapman was mistakenly used instead of that of her late friend and colleague Janet Patterson.
The intensely private Patterson died in Sydney in October.
Chapman, as noted by friends, is very much alive and well, working in Sydney, most recently producing The Daughter, starring Geoffrey Rush, and hit thriller The Babadook.
Australian industry folks tweeted about the mistake during the Oscar ceremony."

Now I wish I had watched this historic Oscars ceremony. A friend of my was covering it as an entertainment reporter and promised to share some interesting BTS antics, lol.
FTWD's Colman Domingo was there (I posted photos in the FTWD Cast and Crew topic) looking great and having fun.

I turned on the Oscars after Talking Dead and I'm glad I did. That last 10 minutes was EPIC! lol
BTW, earlier I was switching back and forth between TWD/TTD and the Oscars. I caught the end of an award where the winner thanked Greg Nicotero, among others. It was a technical award of some sort. How was he involved in any nominated film?

He works on effects for a few films every year IIRC and has also mentored many folks in the industry. I wonder which film it was #greaterpursuit.

PwC is taking all the blame for the FUBAR with best picture winner at last night's Oscars www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/oscars-accounting-firm-offers-second-apology-as-academy-launches-review-snafu-981409“PwC takes full responsibility for the series of mistakes and breaches of established protocols during last night’s Oscars,” the new statement says. “PwC partner Brian Cullinan mistakenly handed the back-up envelope for Actress in a Leading Role instead of the envelope for Best Picture to presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. Once the error occurred, protocols for correcting it were not followed through quickly enough by Mr. Cullinan or his partner.”
Cullinan was one of two PwC partners charged with bringing the envelopes to the Dolby Theatre and then handing the appropriate envelope to each presenter as the various categories were called. In the wake of mix-up, it’s since been learned that Cullinan also was tweeting during the event and had tweeted a picture of best actress winner Emma Stone just minutes before he handed the wrong envelope to Warren Beatty.
The new PwC statement continues, “We are deeply sorry for the disappointment suffered by the cast and crew of La La Land and Moonlight. We sincerely apologize to Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, Jimmy Kimmel, ABC, and the Academy, none of whom was at fault for last night's errors. We wish to extend our deepest gratitude to each of them for the graciousness they displayed during such a difficult moment. For the past 83 years, the Academy has entrusted PwC with the integrity of the awards process during the ceremony, and last night we failed the Academy.”

He works on effects for a few films every year IIRC and has also mentored many folks in the industry. I wonder which film it was #greaterpursuit. Due to my superlative research skills stumbling upon the info while searching for something else, I discovered that Nicotero received a shout out for the film "Suicide Squad", which won the Oscar for makeup. Not sure how he was involved, but the winner in that category singled him out for thanks.
