"...EW: There’s obviously a lot of focus on Negan right now, but what about Dwight? We know from the comic what that whole thing on his face is about. Will we get an answer to that soon here as well? And what else are we going to see from Dwight this season? SG: Dwight has a very big story this season, as he did in the book. Dwight is a character that was trying to escape Negan and now he is one of Negan’s most trusted lieutenants. That says a lot about that character. And he became one of his most trusted lieutenants after his face was burned. That makes for a very interesting character, a very conflicted character. We see a lot from Dwight this season. He is very important to the overall story and the story of Alexandria and the Sanctuary, the story of the greater world. He has one of the more complicated stories. For the thing that has happened to him, you could think the people he should like he would like and the people he should hate he should hate, but it’s all mixed up. EW: Is there still goodness in him somewhere? SG: It gets very complicated with him. He was an idealist and his idealism is what led to the great, great bitterness that you have now, which drives him to do some awful things. It’s complicated. link
With a recent Austin Amelio comment that Dwight hates Daryl because he sees so much of his past, pre-Began self in Daryl, are we to conclude that Daryl is just unspoiled Dwight? Seems likely IMO

That's an interesting comment. I have been trying to figure out what makes Dwight tick...why he didn't kill Daryl, did he purposefully miss Daryl on the railroad tracks, and, if so, why? I think Daryl is going to be a reminder to Dwight of who he was before Negan took him. I think Daryl is going to learn some things from Dwight which might help him to understand himself, to admire himself.
I have this love-hate relationship with Dwight. On one hand I can't stand him and want him gone when he is on screen. On the other hand, he is fascinating, the actor just draws me in, and I want to see what he does. I am interested to learn more about him. I actually hope this is one of those situations where they stay non-specific with this character so I can put my own thoughts into him.

I'm hoping they keep as much of Comic Dwights story on the show.

How much time has passed between Always Accountable and Last Day on Earth? I don't see Negan trusting easily or quickly, so how is Dwight one of his most trusted lieutenants?
