"...And you have six months in between the episodes. It was hard enough keeping things a secret back in the early ’80s with “Who shot JR?” Now with social media, and people camping out, taking photos — what are some of the lengths you guys have gone to protect this secret in terms of which of the 11 got the bat to the face? GN: Well, we’ve gone to pretty significant lengths. That scene was shot on the backlot, because we didn’t want it to be shot out in public where people can climb trees, or for telephoto lenses, to capture something. It’s unfortunate, because those people, their job is to ruin the show, and our job is to preserve the experience of the show. So we do have to spend a lot of energy and a lot of effort preserving the experience of watching the show. It’s just the way the world is right now, and it’s an unfortunate thing. There are a lot of TV shows that I love watching. I choose not to go online and read anything about them because I still enjoy the experience of learning about it for the first time. I don’t need spoilers. I’m a huge Game of Thrones fan, as you know, and every episode took me on this amazing great journey that I relished. I loved not knowing where I was being led but willingly going there. And people that want to put spoilers out there, they’re purposely trying to ruin that experience for people. So I really still think that the majority of viewers feel the same way I do. They don’t want to know ahead, they don’t want to know what’s going to happen. You’ll have some news outlets that will find a kernel or a sort of nugget of information and run with it, and put it out there to be the first ones to report it, but it’s just about the experience of watching any movie. You don’t want to know how it ends. It’s about the journey, it’s not only about the ending..." link
Odd how 6 months later, most articles still start off with one of TPTB insisting the cliffhanger was awesome and hiw fans should have appreciated it more. Dude, this is the time to let that die plus allow people to have their reactions without trying to shame fans or insist they share your personal view of spoilers or anything else IMO. . Also we get the invariable trashing of spoiler folks and those fans who like spoilers. Yes, it is a multimillion dollar per episode show. Most are these days and even small shows have spoilers. The majority of viewers are not spoiled IMO because they do not go to fan forums unless looking for spoilers by like-minded fans to discuss spoilers, shipping etc. Fan forums keep alive the buzz between seasons and also help generate revenue fur cast and crew other projects, including films, restaurants and Con appearances.GN is doing well from fan pages abd sites; biting the hands which shovel money avd prestige into his pockets seems low, but then no good deed goes unpunished.

If a show is going to pull a storyline as lazy as "Who Shot JR?" in 2016, then yes, we will try to find out who shot JR, Greg. LOL.

Settle in, kids, because I'm in a ranting mood I'm in agreement Ripley the fact that tptb are still explaining/ defending the cliffhanger says it all (and because of the cliffhanger, this is pretty much all they could say) It's funny GN comments on social media and the availability of information but fails to take that into account as the very thing that confirmed for fans who hadn't been filming - for all the precautions which were supposedly taken to conceal the CH scene apparently no efforts were made to ensure that the LVs behavior post ep 1 didn't give it all away While I'm heartened that GN also believes the show should be based on a "journey, not destination" strategy, I'm unsure of what kind of journey we're supposed to be on during the hiatus. Shouldn't the journey happen, I don't know, onscreen? Quite the opposite of tits sentiment, spoilers do far seem to suggest very little time will be spent on the aftermath of the loss of the LVs. Seems like this particular journey ends when the bat goes down, then it becomes another "let's force Daryl into this situation because we don't know what to do with him plot line". Finally (I'm almost done, promise), why does GN conclude that most fans feel the way he does? I know fans who don't really care about the CH, but I don't know any (not that I've polled the fandom) who think this was a great and preferable decision. What makes him have this opinion.

Nicotero M8. you must have made no effort at all cos I'm pretty sure everyones great aunt mavis' and her pet chihuaua knows the LV's spoiler by now. You don't have to be a genuis to work it out.
Also, spoiler fans ruin the show? Um, last time I checked, TPTB did not need any assistance with that particular task. They were doing quite well on their own.
I'm also pretty certain, as Starlight has said elsewhere, that the TPTB of this show are genuinely incapable of not bringing up Game of Thrones every time they are interviewed. Guys, comparing yourselves to Game of Thrones, or protesting you don't care about how other shows are doing, only proves to exemplify yo saltiness that these shows are way better.... *and i don't even watch GOT but it's evident that it's a better show by miles*

Did you guys notice this part of his quote...
"If we would have shown the DEATHS (plural??) then they wouldn't have felt our characters in season 7 the way they need to."
Did he just spoil more than one LV? (rofl)

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH! Does anyone just feel like telling Greggie to shut the frag up! Everytime he opens his mouth the same B.S. comes spewing out.
As for bringing up GOT, I believe it's a jealousy issue. They know how to run a show whereas our tptb are working on first grade level.

I want a rating system on any Greg N. interview or quote. My go to rating would be whatever is the lowest number. I noticed that he was the executive producer on FTWD. Self explanatory why it isn't hitting the mark. Stop blaming the victim. TPTB own Season Six's failure. The whole season was awful with a few bright spots. Then the finale failed to hit the mark. Own it. You messed up. I've said this before but I'll repeat myself. For the first time since I started watching TWD I am not excited and only mildly interested in the next season. I watched the first season on Netflix and was front and center for the Season 2 season which hooked me completely. I've attended two Walker Stalker Atlanta. I'm on TWD forums. I am a fan but they have really turned me off the last two season. I detest Greg N. I semi-like Gimple because he has written some amazing episodes. So put me down for a big fat 0 on anything that he does or says.

-Spoiler fans are rabid, voracious fans of the show, so much so that we want to learn as much as possible, as soon as possible. The job of those involved in creating the show is to create a quality hour of viewing each week. Viewers will all experience the show in their own way. We're adults who have been enjoying television programs for some time. Some of us can even tie our own shoes.
"There are a lot of TV shows that I love watching. I choose not to go online and read anything about them because I still enjoy the experience of learning about it for the first time. -Once again, no, they're feeding hungry fans. Fans for whom spoilers enhance their enjoyment of the show. Fans that spend lots of money. Fans that supply ratings. Fans who don't like spoilers don't go online to look for them, as you say you don't.
"So I really still think that the majority of viewers feel the same way I do. They don’t want to know ahead, they don’t want to know what’s going to happen. -Why do you assume the majority of viewers feel the same way you do? From your talks with fans....who invariably ask you what's ahead for the show? "News outlets" (CNN?) who post accurate spoilers (i.e., not endless clickbait speculation) always post spoiler alerts, or they'd be pilloried.

1. I can't stand this party in the back but no business in the front walking mid-life crisis. He's got more hair on his eyebrows than the first half of his scalp. 2. He screams narcissist to me: exaggerated feelings of self-importance, excessive need for admiration, lack of understanding of others' feelings. (thanks wikipedia) 3. Oh as deadhead pointed out, thanks for confirming the 2 deaths, dumbass! Now who's in the business of spoiling the fun for everyone? 4. If your inspiration is 1980 soap opera Dallas, then you're a fucking hack. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, just sit in Hacksville where your ass belongs. 5. And maybe stop biting the hand that feeds you because the diehard fans on social media are the ones most likely to visit your overpriced dry ass chicken sandwich serving restaurant.

"Lengths used to Protect Cliffhanger Secrets" Let's see the lengths. 1. The show let's that paparazzi site Just Jared publish those pics that shows that Rick Michonne Aaron and Rosita didn't die. 2. Norman has been riding around GA with JDM and he posted a pic that clearly showed Rick with blood on his face from the season 6 final. ( Norman deleted the pic ) 3. And now GN himself spoils more than one character will die.

"...The Walking Dead executive producer Greg Nicotero may have slipped a bit and revealed that more than one main character is going to die in the Season 7 premiere in a recent interview with EW - the same one where he described the significant lengths the team has gone to protect the cliffhanger. Being asked about the fan reaction to the season six finale's cliffhanger, Nicotero stood by the choice, claiming that the moments we will see in the coming episode will send a message to the audience which would have fallen flat premiere would have been underutilized if they had come before the off-season. " If we would have shown the deaths, then they wouldn’t have felt our characters in season 7 the way they need to," Nicotero says.Catch that? "Deaths."..."

Tptb screaming about spoilers does distract from critics and fans complaining about the CH and horrible writing of S6. People aren't saying, "We're furious about those awful spoilers!" They're saying, "We're furious about all the cheap gimmicks, bad writing, and cynical fucking with the audience TWD does!"
GoT has spoiler sites. It also has climbing ratings and Emmys. And I don't hear GoT's showrunners insulting devoted fans.
