Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green Cast as Star Trek: Discovery Lead A Walking Dead actress is about to forge the final frontier. Sonequa Martin-Green has been cast as the lead in the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery, EW.com reports. Martin-Green will play a lieutenant commander in the sci-fi reboot, a role then-executive producer Bryan Fuller described at last summer’s Television Critics Association press tour as having “caveats.” linkI love this news

Star Trek: Discovery Casts True Blood's James Frain as Spock's Father Here’s a piece of casting that’s sure to prick up your ears: Star Trek: Discovery has tapped True Blood’s James Frain to play Spock’s father Sarek. First introduced in the original Star Trek, Sarek has made a handful of appearances throughout the franchise over the last five decades. At the Television Critics Association press tour in August, the CBS All Access series’ then-showrunner Bryan Fuller said the 13-episode first season would “bridge the gap between Enterprise and the original series” and would deal with an incident in Starfleet history “that had been talked about but never fully explored. [We’re telling] that story through a character who is on a journey that is going to teach her how to get along with others in the galaxy.” Fuller stepped down as showrunner earlier this fall due to creative differences. “I’m not involved in production, or post-production,” he recently confirmed. “So I can only give them the material I’ve given them and hope that it is helpful for them. I’m curious to see what they do with it.” Frain joins a cast that also includes Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead), Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Doug Jones (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Anthony Rapp (Rent), Shazad Latif (Penny Dreadful) and Chris Obi (American Gods). link

Star Trek: Discovery Gets Delayed Again by CBS, No Premiere Date Set Star Trek: Discovery is going to be stuck in the docking bay for a little longer. The new Trek TV show won’t premiere in May as previously announced, EW.com reports. This is the second time the CBS All Access series has been delayed; it was originally slated to debut in February 2017, then got pushed back to May. Now the show doesn’t have a premiere date at all. Discovery‘s voyage to TV has been bumpy already: Original showrunner Bryan Fuller stepped down in October, replaced by Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg. Fuller now says he won’t be involved in Discovery at all, beyond writing the pilot. The show has announced some key casting, though, including The Walking Dead‘s Sonequa Martin-Green as the lead character. CBS won’t confirm that Discovery‘s premiere date has changed, but released a statement link

Thanks for posting this Starlight! I love James Frain so think he will be terrific as Spook's father Sarek. Seeing it confirmed filming for TWD won't start until Summer 2017 is also good because we know that will shift everything, from hiatus periods to filming and possible weather shifts on the show. Very interesting in the aftermath of season 7.Makes me wonder if they will market season 8 as a "reboot" of the show after ratings drops in season 7, and return more to the roots of the show in earlier years which cemented the show's success in reaching viewers. The delayed production doest feel alarming to me as we know other shows have delays- Westworld's production delays, script rewrites and other issues certainly did not affect it badly as season 1 made it a hit. I would rather see Discovery later but better than earlier but awful.

I think Westworld proved that sometimes it's better to delay a show to have a stellar product. I'm not worried about Star Trek being delayed.

He seems to he set one vision and path his own.. The mention of "summer" filming was part of AMC's renewal for season 8 announcement which just said "...Days before its highly anticipated Season 7 Premiere, The Walking Dead has been renewed for an eighth season. Season 8 will premiere in late-2017 and will kick off with the 100th episode of the series..." First paragraph of the statement from AMC here: www.amc.com/shows/the-walking-dead/talk/2016/10/the-walking-dead-renewed-for-season-8Which might mean May or later for "Summer" and as for "premiere in late-2017" could mean October through December of the year. The language was so generic it could mean a change or simply not change at all, so I was speculating and wondering above more than anything else, just based on the language AMC used as changing didn't make sense to me Starlight . As far as I know, filming will keep the same successful patterns as in the past. v Keiran dark sister Meggo358 Sexual Chocolate

Jason Isaacs signed on to play Discovery Captain! "...The series features the franchise's Enterprise, now known as the U.S.S. Isaacs (USA Network's Dig, NBC's Awake) will star as Captain Lorca, the captain of the Starship Discovery. He joins a growing cast of series regulars that includes The Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green as Rainsford, a lieutenant commander; Doug Jones as science officer Saru; Anthony Rapp as fellow science officer Stamets; James Frain as Sarek, a Vulcan astrophysicist and Spock's father; Terry Serpico as Starfleet admiral Anderson; Maulik Pancholy as chief medical officer Nambue; and Sam Vartholomeos as junior Starfleet officer Connor. SMG spotted hanging out with the ST:D cast "Even though CBS hasn’t yet officially announced the widely-reported casting of Sonequa Martin-Green as Star Trek: Discovery’s lead, that hasn’t stopped the Walking Dead star from hanging out with the rest of the Discovery cast in Toronto. Celebrating the birthday of co-star James Frain (Sarek) at the Toronto-based BUCA Osteria & Enoteca restaurant, Martin-Green (and her husband Kenric) spent the evening with Frain, Michelle Yeoh (Captain Georgiou), Chris Obi (the Klingon T’Kuvma), Doug Jones (Lt. Saru), Jason Isaacs (Captain Lorca), and Shazad Latif (Klingon officer Kol). This group photo of the Discovery cast was posted on Chris Obi’s personal Instagram feed last night, and is the first sign of Martin-Green’s connection to the rest of the cast, outside of media reports...." link

On Monday, CBS officially welcomed the actress on board the starship and also revealed her character's name: First Officer Michael Burnham. link

Star Trek: Discovery Recasts Klingon Amid Flurry of New Additions Kenneth Mitchell will soon go where… well, where plenty of men have gone before. The Astronaut Wives Club survivor will return to outer space in the long-awaited Star Trek: Discovery as part of a recast announced by CBS All Access. Mitchell, whose TV credits also include Jericho and Frequency, is set to play Kol, a commanding officer in the Klingon Empire. He thus replaces Shazad Latif (Penny Dreadful), who will now fill the role of Starfleet Lieutenant Tyler. In addition, Discovery has added three more actors to its ranks: Rekha Sharma (Battlestar Galactica) as Commander Landry, security officer for the Discovery; and Damon Runyan (Degrassi) and Clare McConnell as Ujilli and Dennas, respectively, leaders in the Klingon Empire. link

Star Trek: Discovery reveals first photo of two cast members dailydead.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Star-Trek-Discovery-620.jpgThe image has the duo beamed down to an as-yet-unrevealed planet. We can say for the first time that the eagerly anticipated CBS All Access series is not only filming at a studio in Toronto but also shot scenes like this one in Jordan. There are a couple of details for fans in this shot as well: Burnham has what looks like an old-school flip communicator on her belt (Discovery is a prequel to the 1966 original series) as well as what could be a tricorder hanging below her left hip — seems appropriate for a First Officer (Spock often carried a tricorder on missions supporting Captain Kirk in TOS). linkI love that pic.

Variety The trailer Starlight posted plus: "MAY 17, 2017 | 02:33PM PT In anticipation of the long-awaited debut of CBS All Access’ “Star Trek: Discovery,” CBS unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming series during Wednesday’s Upfront presentation in New York City. The trailer comes just one day after the first photos from the streaming series came out (see above) with stars Sonequa Martin-Green and Michelle Yeoh in character. In the new trailer, we get our first look at Martin-Green as the first officer of The Discovery, who appears to be a human raised by Vulcans, as evidenced by conversations she has with Sarek (James Frain). The Discovery then comes across an unknown object at the edge of Federation space, leading to a conflict with the Klingons. In addition, the network revealed that Season 1 of the series will consist of 15 episodes instead of 13, with an after-show called “Talking Trek.” Releasing the first “Star Trek” trailer during CBS’s Upfront is a move to woo advertisers with a fan-favorite, iconic property, like ABC did with their announcement of “American Idol” during their Tuesday presentation and like NBC did by bringing out the original cast of “Will & Grace” for a surprise appearance. In true “Star Trek” form, much of the “Discovery” plot and other details have been kept under wraps until now. The series will star “The Walking Dead” alum Martin-Green, who plays the lead lieutenant commander; Frain as Spock’s father Sarek; Anthony Rapp as a space fungus expert; Michelle Yeoh as the captain in charge of the Starship Shenzhou; Jason Isaacs as the captain of the Discovery; Terry Serpico as Admiral Anderson, a high-ranking official of Starfleet; Maulik Pancholy as Dr. Nambue, the chief medical officer of the Starship Shenzhou; Sam Vartholomeos as Ensign Connor, a junior officer in Starfleet Academy assigned to the Starship Shenzhou; and “The Office” alum Rainn Wilson in the role of Harry Mudd; plus Shazad Latif, Rekha Sharma, Kenneth Mitchell, Clare McConnell and Damon Runyan. “Star Trek: Discovery” has been repeatedly delayed, due to behind-the-scenes shuffling. The show was first set to launch this past January, but was held back thanks to production delays and the departure of showrunner Bryan Fuller, who is still on board as an executive producer. The show is now set to debut this fall."

Fantastic merelei thank you! Welp, trolls can't handje a ST franchise show eithbeoneb in charge? Pfft too effing bad! "CBS released a trailer earlier this month for its upcoming “Star Trek: Discovery,” the first television series in the franchise since “Star Trek: Enterprise” ended in 2005. The trailer excited many fans, but it also led to a familiar anger, as many people decried the casting of Michelle Yeoh, an Asian woman, as the ship’s captain and Sonequa Martin-Green, a black woman, as the ship’s first officer. ...On Sunday, George Takei, who played the iconic character Hikaru Sulu in the original “Star Trek” series and multiple movies, joined MSNBC’s “AM Joy” to discuss the views of people who believe the Star Trek franchise is being tainted in an attempt to diversify the cast. On the show, he quickly and swiftly dismantled the criticisms, exposing the critics as ignorant of the intentions of creator Gene Roddenberry..." I this news. Star Trek: Discovery scoop: Jonathan Frakes joins as director. Frakes, of course, played Commander William T. Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation and in several Trek films. Jonathan Frakes will rejoin the Trek world with Discovery,” writer-producer Gretchen J. Berg told EW. “He’s a fantastic guy and great director.” Added fellow showrunner Aaron Harberts: “Our cast is dying to work with him.” Frakes is very experienced behind the camera, having helmed several episodes of TNG, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager, as well as the Trek films First Contact and Insurrection. In addition, he’s directed episodes of several non-Trek titles such as Leverage, Burn Notice, and NCIS: Los Angeles. Berg and Harberts previously worked with Frakes when he directed five episodes of CBS’ Roswell. Link
