I've not seen the episode yet due to storm-related power outages. Soon though.

Or maybe it wasn't from the storms......

Just wrapped the first episode - i love Winona Ryder as the lead. I wish she would do more because she really is a fantastic actress. The first scene gave me chills and kind of reminded me of the feeling I got when I saw days gone by the first time it aired. Really loving the 80s vibe, sci fi/adventure slant with a bit of conspiracy/government badness in the mix

I'm up to the last episode now and have to say I am really liking this show as well, thanks for the recommendation. While I thought Winona Ryder was good, I thought she wasn't as consistent as the series went on and couldn't help but to think what a better job Melissa would have done in that role. Am I a fanboy or what lol

This is horrible of me to ask but I'm asking anyway. Is the actress who plays the older sister okay? She seems awfully thin even for tv.

There were some things that Winona did that just knocked me out.... things she would do physically....there was a scene where she was sitting on a chair and she swings her legs round to get at something...it struck me as so odd that she did that... but it was just another layer she did with her character.
I don't know the name of the actor who plays the sheriff, but he was pretty amazing as well.I loved the eye makeup they gave him and the older son to project they were worn out.

The baby who played Judith Grimes in TWD is playing the little sister Holly in the show.

Leaping in today to sit at the computer and catch up with y'all. Why Stranger Things should be an Anthology Series" "...What if instead, Stranger Things tossed everything out and just started anew? Hear us out. Season 1 told a perfectly self contained and wholly satisfying tale, an eight-hour edition of one of the classic sci-fi films its creators so clearly adore. There were just two scenes near the end of the finale that felt, if anything, tacked on mainly set up another year – the somewhat disappointing reversal on El’s sacrifice that hinted she’s still alive and the suggestion that poor Will is not out of the woods yet (so to speak). Are there other questions beyond that? Sure. We barely know anything about the monster or the Upside Down world, for instance. But those are mysteries that felt like they added to show, not detracted. As an audience, we don’t need to know everything, and season 1 answered just enough.... Now let’s look at the alternative: Stranger Things as anthology series – a Fargo, an American Horror Story, a True Detective … well, maybe not a True Detective. Let’s stick with Fargo. Imagine Stranger Things as an entirely different sci-fi period drama every season, launching a new story with new characters mining different tropes from that bevy of unofficial Carpenter-Spielberg-King-Barker-Bradbury source material lionized in the first season. Even the show’s title seems perfect for an anthology rather than an ongoing story; its Things plurality suggesting a creepy variety pack rather than a singular tale. As a title, ”Stranger Things” is just one draft away from being “Amazing Stories.” It’s awesome credits sequence is a black-and-red box of ambigous mystery; there’s nothing about it that’s tied to this particular story...." www.ew.com/article/2016/08/16/stranger-things-season-2-anthology

Interesting idea. I haven't watched those shows mentioned but my mind immediately went to True Detective and the poor reviews season 2 garnered. (I only saw season 1).
I say let it go as a winner.

I won't comment on the series until more people have seen the entire season, but I was quite impressed with the little actress who played Eleven, Millie Bobby Brown. There's a really talented kid, IMO.

greaterpursuit, I agree regarding the actress who plays Eleven. I also have to give props to Charlie Heaton, who plays Jonathan, for leaving me with no inkling he's from the UK. He might not be academy award material, but the guy does a mean American accent.

The Olympics had me sidetracked but I watched the entire first season today and this is officially my favorite show. I loved everything about it: the music, the 80s nostalgia, the acting, the relationships...did I tell you I love everything. And I already said this on tumblr but by episode two Jonathan and Nancy reminded me of Caryl. And no, I'm not in the habit of looking for Caryl in anything other than TWD. But their budding friendship and maybe relationship screams high school version of the two life ruiners I've been suffering because of for 6 seasons.

My absolute favorite scene of season 1 is after they find Will's body. A distraught Mike racing home on his bike. Joyce running down the dark road after Will, through the lights, tells her to run. And then we see what had me doing the Daryl Dixon ugly cry: Mike crying in his mother's arms; and Joyce crying in Jonathan's. The former a child being comforted by his mother; the latter a mother being comforted by her child. I swear I'm tearing up just typing this.

I finally started this! (Didn't read through the thread yet, I probably won't until I'm done) I've watched the first two episodes. I really like the feel of it so far.

I've been reading the thread. I'm a spoiler junkie I guess. This has been a strangely busy summer for me. Usually I have more time to 'catch' up on things I enjoy like reading, movies and TV shows. Not so this year.

Watched the entire series yesterday. I will be re-watching.
10 out of 10 - can't think of one thing that didn't 'fit'.
Walked away with only one question ... why did Hop leave in the black car? Surely he could have told the goons where the 4 kids were holed up waiting.
I get that some feel this could be an anthology series like Fargo and True Detective. But I'm thrilled Season 2 will continue the story. That scene with Will at the end was unsettling to say the least. And I need to know what is going on with Hop and the Eggos. Did anyone else want to fix a nice healthy hearty dinner for El?
Loved seeing TWD twins and the Quarry. I wonder what other locations were used in both?
Many of the scenes with El reminded me of Firestarter. Loved how she was dressed in the pink Polly Flinders Smocked number. (ET).
I too am gobsmacked that Charlie Heaton (Jonathan) is British - he nailed a Midwestern US accent. Millie Bobby Brown (El) as well.
All of the actors were fantastic. Even the creepy Dr. Brenner.
Best. Line. Ever ... "Lunch lady Louise hoards that shit!". Don't we all remember an evil lunch lady?
I just wanted to hug Lucas when he was going all "Commando/Red Dawn" when he ventured out to find Will on his own.

LOOVEEE Stranger Things. Really need to do a rewatch.
I won't lie...I am Jopper Trash.....Joyce x Hopper give me SOOO MUCH LIFE, as does David Harbours enthusiasm for both Winona and the ship itself. Does anyone else here like Jopper? There's actually tumblr tags dedicated to them that are well worth a read with some meta and some fanfiction!
My only thing is....I don't understand the hype around Barb. Sure, she's nice and all.....but what is the internet obsession?

This is one of the article that delves into reasons why "Barb" became an Internet sensation. www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2016/08/barb-stranger-things-popularity"There might be plenty of female misfits on TV nowadays, but most of them still look like Nancys: slender women with big eyes and porcelain skin. By contrast, the bespectacled, freckle-flecked Barb looks more like someone you might actually meet in real life—or could have met, if you were around in the 80s."

Barb is/was all types of awesome because she was a good friend, and one better than Nancy deserved. She didn't want to go to Steve's party but went anyway for Nancy. She knew Nancy was trying to be somebody she wasn't and tried to save her from herself. And even when Nancy told her to go home, she didn't because you never leave a woman behind. On top of that, practically the whole town barely gave two shits that Barb was missing. I mean, come on, a second child goes missing under mysterious circumstances and they all believe she ran away. Barb deserved better. Still love this show, tho.

So through a fluke of confusion, I found out Stalwart is the studio behind season 2 and Mike Riley (location manager for TWD) is scouting locations for it as well. Should make filming location scouting for TWD quite interesting this fall. They are currently at an abandoned high school in Stockbridge, GA, which was the school used in season 1.
