He’s one of the most colorful and kooky characters in The Walking Dead universe, and he is now making the leap from page to screen. That’s right, all hail King Ezekiel! The leader of a new community called the Kingdom, Ezekiel insists on being addressed as a king and carries around a scepter while accompanied by his pet tiger Shiva. (We told you he was colorful.) The favorite from the comic book will be making his debut when The Walking Dead returns for season 7 on Oct. 23, and we’ve got your first photo and interview with the man playing him, Khary Payton. Read on as Payton discusses how he got the coveted role, his thoughts on the character and his tiger, and what Ezekiel makes of the Kingdom’s latest visitors, Carol and Morgan. ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: I guess it must be nice to finally be able to talk about getting this role, huh? KHARY PAYTON: Yeah, man. I’m honestly a little freaked out just talking to you. I’ve been diving in the backs of vans and having blankets thrown over my head so that nobody catches a glimpse of me and getting in and out of Georgia. I’ve got a lot of family in Georgia and I didn’t even tell them that I was there, so to have an interview with a reporter is a little unnerving. full article: www.ew.com/article/2016/07/28/walking-dead-ezekiel-khary-payton-first-photo-interview?xid=entertainment-weekly_socialflow_twitter

From KP description of Ezekiel I already dislike the character. He sounds to be a mix of Beth Lizzie and Morgan.
And I have no desire to see Ezekiel and Morgan double tag Carol with their crackpot philosophies.. Carol doesn't need to be Eastman or anything like that. She need to find her own balance. Without the two yoda's who know zero about her filling her head with crap.
The only thing good I see with Ezekiel is that KP has a really good body.

I don't know that anything I read confirms that Morgan and Ezekiel will try to "fix" Carol, or filling her head with anything - there was very little revealed in how ezekeil will interact with both.
I did think it was interesting the degree they were going to cover Ezekiel up from the public. We also have confirmation (though maybe we didn't need it) that the show is definitely not toning down this characters flamboyance

"He sees potential in them for understanding his way of living and spreading this gospel of joy and light in a dark situation." And this is how he describes how Ezekiel see walkers. "Even his relationship with the zombies themselves. He’s a guy who doesn’t think of them as having a physical disease. It’s more that their joy was robbed from them" To me Ezekiel sounds alot like Morgan and I can see both of them doubling up to fix Carol. when she doesn't need to fixed or brainwashed to their way of thinking. I understand the show taking measures to hide KP. The kindgom is the only thing they have that haven't been really spoiled yet.

For one thing, actor interviews aren't exact interpretations of what we'll see onscreen, so I'm hesitant to use KPs words as saying that he sees Carol/Morgan as projects...could be he sees them as potential allies and could fit in their world. As far as the walkers go - we've seen that before in characters and it never holds. Overall I don't see any reason to believe Carol will be brainwashed by anyone - at least not based on what we know. I think all characters reaching a middle ground of sorts is the most likely.

Based on this, I don't think Ezekial and Morgan will brainwash or "fix" Carol, but I do think Carol will probably find some inner peace at Kingdom while she recovers from her injuries. I actually think we're going to get some more humorous scenes as Carol and Morgan take in the whole idea of Kingdom and meet Shiva, as the trailer suggested with Carol seemingly high on meds.
I'm looking forward to the Carol self-torture arc to end, and the mention here of Kingdom as a "lighthouse" makes me think seeing how the people of Kingdom live will have a profound effect on Carol. She may try to run away again, but once Carol learns about the Lucilling, I am sure she will have a change of heart and want Kingdom to align with ASZ and Hilltop.
I don't see Carol returning to live at ASZ, at least not in 7A, but even if she decides to stay at Kingdom, I am sure the writers will want her to cross paths with other TF members. I'd like a Carol/Rick and Carol/Daryl reunion at some point.

Any plot that doesn't involve an eventual return to Team Family for Carol is a big "nope" for me. Hopefully she'll find the inner peace you mention, @shopgirlin310 and leave Morgan to enjoy communing with like minded souls in the Kingdom.

I actually hope Morgan does a 180 as well, and agrees to join the fight against Negan. Otherwise, it's going to be pretty boring watching him tend the garden at Kingdom. I cannot imagine Carol wouldn't want to go comfort Maggie after she hears about the Lucilling, especially after what they both went through in "Same Boat." But, this is the same show that had Maggie forget she had a sister... so they'll probably pretend Carol wouldn't want to see Maggie after hearing the news. I don't think Carol has been seen filming at ASZ or Hilltop, so I don't know how they're going to make Carol and Morgan's reactions make sense.

If I had to guess, I don't think we'll get much of a reaction from Carol, simply out of convenience...the information will be revealed to her offscreen, then time jump, something like that. I think there's a chance we could just be left to guess her reaction. As for Morgan - I'm kind of in your camp that they have to have him evolve in order for his character to (a) become likable and (b) survive what's to come. I think he'll struggle with the fact that his philosophy isn't sustainable, then evolve, and then make friends with that bo staff in the sky.

I'm not looking forward to another half season of Morgan and his all life is precious bullshit. Dude, you spent a month with Twisty the Clown in the middle of the woods whose only day to day conflict was keeping walkers from chewing on his goat. I don't want to hear it.

Yes, because why would we want to see an emotional response to a critically important event in a character's life in a DRAMA series?
