"Best-Movie-Performances-2016 "As 2016 reaches the halfway mark, critics Owen Gleiberman and Peter Debruge look back and choose the best acting performances of the first part of the year. Note: The following list is based on movies that have debuted in theaters, not film festivals, in the first half of the year." Julianne Moore in “Maggie's Plan” In Rebecca Miller’s screwball romantic triangle, Moore plays a character who at first seems almost too broad: a stern Danish academic who uses her accent like a whip. But the more she takes over the situation, the more that Moore turns every line into a gem of caustic surprise Ryan Reynolds in “Deadpool” He’s had his moments, but Reynolds has never totally jelled as a movie star — until now, when he makes up for the misbegotten Green Lantern by playing the title superhero as a scarred motormouth nihilist so nasty he could take on all the Avengers with his grunge wit alone link

Ohh I like lists like this. I've seen a few of the performances.
Julianne Moore in “Maggie's Plan” - This I completely disagree with. The movie itself was pretty weak and Moore is very over the top, I thought. Especially with the Danish accent she tries to do.
Ryan Reynolds in “Deadpool” - Agreed here, Reynolds was born to play Deadpool.
Colin Farrell in “The Lobster” - Also agree with this one. It's a very odd movie and Farrell is great.
Ellen DeGeneres in “Finding Dory” I really liked Finding Dory. I'm not sure how "great" you can be at voice acting in a sequel, but the movie itself is wonderful
Jake Gyllenhaal in “Demolition” - Gyllenhaal is very good, but this movie loses so much steam after the first half hour.
I'd add Anya Taylor-Joy for The Witch, Paul Dano for Swiss Army Man, and Anton Yelchin for Green Room, personally.

Ripley The Lobster is great. I gave it a B- The director did a Greek film a few years ago called Dogtooth that is tremendously disturbing. Unlike anything I'd ever seen. You should check that one out too if you get time!
