Share your favorite documentary, talk about ones you've recently watched, or even ones you'd avoid all together.
Some of my favorites ones to start with are
Blackfish Bowling For Columbine The Cove
I'll list more later. What are your favorite documentaries? Which ones have you seen recently?

I know this thread is for film documentaries, but I'm going to use it to post about PBS Frontline's documentary "Poor Kids". It's absolutely worth 53 minutes. Once you've seen it, you will not forget it. www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/poor-kids/

Once you've seen it, you will not forget it. www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/poor-kids/I just finished watching it and it broke my heart. When voters pick politicians who cut programs, these are the children who go hungry. These are the ones who are chronically homeless, and missing school. PBS provided updates on the kids a couple of years after airing. What’s Happened to Brittany, Jonny and Kaylie?Link The also had a bonus story, Sera’s Story: Growing Up Poor in San FranciscoArticle with VideoAnother great doc is Waiting for Superman. I highly recommend watching the doc and then reading, Whatever It Takes by Paul Tough. It goes in depth about educator Geoffrey Canada who is featured in Waiting for Superman.

Morgan Spurlock's Super Size Me - I showed this to my Food 'n Fitness students. An oldie but its message is powerful. The students (Freshman through Seniors) 'got' it.
TX for posting these titles!

Blackfish Dear Zachary Something's Wrong with Aunt Diane Born into Brothels Exit Through the Gift Shop Grizzly Man I love documentaries and I have a few in queue waiting to be watched. I've seen all of those with the exception of Something's Wrong with Aunt Diane, which I'd like to watch. Dear Zachary absolutely broke me. I was not expecting that to get even more depressing than the subject already was. (Though I take issue with a few directorial choices towards the end there) Born into Brothels was interesting, especially because the director kept up a website so we could follow up with the kids post doc. Exit was wild because it didn't feel like any doc I'd ever seen before. Grizzly Man made me uncomfortable. It was like watching a slow motion mental illness trainwreck. Ripley I also love The Internet's Own Boy. Very tragic, I wish it had made it into the final five Oscar nominees for that year. It was on the short list. Man on Wire and Citizenfour are also good ones. And if you need a bit of batshit, watch Talhotblond

That was a really good one. Cult documentaries are always interesting to me, but I think that's the best one on that subject I've ever seen.

I watched one on Netflix last night called Audrie & Daisy, it was about two teenagers that suffered sexual assaults and what happened afterwards. So heartbreaking and aggravating. I definitely recommend.

I watched a documentary series called The Staircase. It's older, but it follows a man who has been convicted of murdering his wife when she insists she fell down the stairs. It's very interesting.

I watched 13th on Netflix last night. It's about the American prison system and how it's unfairly set up to effect black people the most. Really great doc that went in depth on a few things I wasn't familiar with.

I've never heard of it but just ran to youtube to watch the trailer. I'm definitely watching the doc this weekend. Thanks for pointing it out to me. It's unreal. The whole thing is on youtube. There's one that says it's 2 hours and 20 some minutes long, it's not really that long, it starts replaying something immediately after the doc ends, but the whole thing is in that one. It's on DailyMotion too if you ever watch videos there.

I started watching Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room. I've heard good things about this doc, and I was too young and preoccupied to follow the Enron scandal as it was happening.

What I'm currently watching. I wasn't a fan of this doc. I expected it to sway me on believing Amanda's innocence and I really don't. Plus, I hate how Meredith is always an afterthought.

dark sister It was alright. I went in convinced she was guilty, but now I'm not so sure. Heck, I'm not even sure the only guy convicted was guilty. But in the end, I have the same mindset after I watched Making a Murderer. I don't know if Amanda or Steven are guilty of the crimes they're accused of, but I don't think they guilt has been proven either. I think I might start Jinx tonight. I pretty much know the basics of the story since I watched All Good Things, the movie based on the case. ETA: Yes, Meredith was an afterthought and so was Teresa Halbach. It always makes me wonder what the victim's family feels when these docs come out. ETA2: I can't find The Jinx on HBO or Netflix. Let me dig through the internet to find a decent copy.
