This thread can be dedicated to discussing/recommending films from all over the world.
I recently watched a Turkish film called Mustang and it was a very powerful and brilliant film. I wish it had won the Best Foreign Oscar over Son of Saul.

I've not watched many foreign films for a long time, due to fandom responsibilities. But there are many older films I love and still rewatch whenever possible. I will come back and post a list later this weekend. great topic dark sister

Watched a German film last night called Everyone Else. It was a very interesting study on whether or not a couple's relationship is working.

One of my favourite foreign movies is the Korea The Host. It has everything humour, sadness and a big old monster.

My all time favorite movie is Run Lola Run, a german film that came out in 1998 starring the amazing Franka Potente. I've seen it dozens of times since then. Its nothing like it in plot but I'd compare it to Fury Road in terms of how physically affecting it can be in different parts (If you're me, you hold your breath, tense up in your shoulders/upper body, etc.) - really intricate, interesting story with great acting.
Incidentally, this movie - combined with a deep admiration for Dana Scully - led to me dying my hair red as a show of solidarity. The results were not good.

I wish I could've liked Run Lola Run more. We watched it in German class in high school. Maybe I'd like it more if I saw it now since I've developed a better taste in film. Tangerines is a great Estonian film I'd certainly recommend. It should've won the Foreign Film Oscar in 2014. It was better than Ida (the winner) and Leviathan (the one many thought would win) You go, Estonia.

I haven't watched any foreign films in a long time but I used to love watching Japanese films. I have four favorites:
Shall We Dansu by Masayuki Suo (lighthearted)
Departures by Yojiro Takita (about a failed musician who becomes an undertaker...)
Dreams by Akira Kurosawa (a series of dreams and the last one featuring a funeral march is so joyful and wonderful)
and After Life by Hirokazu Korida about how when people die they get to make a movie of their favorite memory and take it with them.
My favorite is Dreams. I keep telling myself I need to buy it.
Love this thread...I will be writing down many of these recommendations

The horror thread got me thinking of I Saw The Devil - intense Korean film.
