We've been talking a lot recently about flaws in the Daryl character, so let's talk about what we like(d) about Daryl too. Many fans ship Daryl too, with various characters or at least have seen the trend of how Daryl gets shipped with many characters in the fandom, in fan fiction and even slash fiction. Most viewers liked Daryl, at least initially- after all, that is why the character survived into season 2 instead of being killed off in season one. What things about Daryl's character do you like or did you love in past seasons. All the characters grow and change on the show, as we have seen with Carol, Glenn, Rick, Carl and others. This is a positive topic for Daryl fans, so when commenting, please do not spend more time covering negative aspects of Daryl than the things you like or liked about him, thanks!

What I like best about Daryl is his observations of people and how he knows the things they do not know about themselves. In season one,in a deleted scene, he confronted Andrea or Lori when Rick's group returned to the Vatos shelter to find it ransacked and all the Vatos and their charges gone. Observation he says, when it is clear that violence had occurred and not a peaceful evacuation as either Lori or Andrea had suggested.
Daryl knows how to track, how to read signs in the forest and signs in people. In earlier seasons he was given a lot of this to do in fact. In season 2, he pointed out later that Rick had subconsciously known about Shane and Lori but just hadn't let himself know it because it was simply too painful for Rick.
He could read the struggle signs correctly that Shane had killed Randall and noticed that Randall had turned despite the lack of a walker bite on the corpse.
Daryl knows Carol too IMO, and Rick and others in the group, even though he may not speak about it or even to them directly about issues. I do think he knows a lot about what is tearing up Carol inside because he has had to deal with his own version of that in a way- coming to terms with the guilt around Beth and her later death in Coda, about Bob, Tyreese and now Denise.

I like Daryl for his relationship with Carol. But no, I like that he's "always the sweet one." and has flaws. I wish they'd focus more on his character and less on his man pain.

Yeah, everything that Ripley said !! 8-) And I'll add that Daryl is "real" and he's honest, you have to take him or leave him. I never looked at Daryl as some super hero, but he does think quick on his feet and doesn't hesitate to make a decision, right or wrong, and yes, some of the stuff he's done, like killed that walker on the bridge by closing the hatchback down on his head was cool but that doesn't make him a super hero. Daryl was already a survivor long before the apocalypse, with or without the zombies. TPTB brought his character to the show as an uneducated outspoken redneck but this man is not uneducated, just not the way the others are. Daryl can't read a book but he can read people and places, things, animals and trees and stuff. Aaron was the first at Alexandria to recognize Daryl's potential. I like Daryl because he's real, and he's down to earth. And he's thoughtful, caring, and generous, but he doesn't know how to accept a compliment. I wouldn't mind seeing Daryl with nice fluffy clean hair, a nice clean shirt under a leather vest but I think it would change his character too much. Sort of reminds me of Clint Eastwood in those old spaghetti westerns back when Clint was a heart throb and cool as hell.

I love Daryl...he has that sensitive heart and cares about people and, despite his upbringing, has allowed himself to care about TF. He is smart and "observant" and is able to read people. He takes himself seriously and has high expectations from himself in terms of taking care of the people he loves. He brought Carol a flower at one of her lowest points, and held her as she watched her daughter die. He has to deal with a lot of manpain, but he is more stable than Rick. When he gives his head nod, everything is ok in his book.I like that he is starting to stand up to Rick a little. I would like to see him put himself first and look at what he wants for himself. Maybe they really will explore that with him. They hint at storylines with him, but never seem to take him there.

I like Daryl and I even accepted his hair But the show needs to do something with him I want him to get development as character. I don't care about the arm porn and bike they aren't that make a character. It's the personality of the character.
