I'm committing the cardinal sin of being a non-parent judging a parent.
Alicia seems to wander around doing as she likes leaving chaos and doing stupid things in her wake. In s 1, she hung with her boyfriend risking infection of death, she abd Chris trashed the neighbor's house playing dress up abd vandalizing it.
In s 2, she gave away their location and dangerous info to the radio guy. In 2.02, she wandered the island area wearing earbuds so she wouldn't have been able to hear walkers coming up behind her or dangerous people either.
She's not a child but Madison and Travis often ignore their kids while doing other things. I would think in a ZA you'd keep an eye on your children and teens, not leaving them alone for hours at a time to do whatever they choose. She could have chores-hell all the teenagers could, or a buddy system or something.
I know ADC is a huge draw for the show, from her other work, including the 100, but I'm not finding her character remotely interesting . Instead I want to sit Madison and Travis down and say "look-your kids are out of control and doing dangerous, stupid things, taking risks and being idiots. How about being a little smarter about parenting? Tell them what is going on and keep a closer eye on what they are doing!"
To be fair it is also Chris and Nick, not just Alecia-all are somewhat reckless teenagers typical of thinking nothing bad will happen to them and slightly cocky *cough Beth Greene*cough. Maybe after TWD I just have less patience for teen antics like Carl abd Enid in the woods, Alecia wandering around aimlessly eyc?
Am I the only one who finds them annoying?

Agreed - they are annoying. Hardwick said special cast member on the couch next week. Wonder if one of them will bite it? Nick is not nearly as annoying - even when he was jonseing for his drugs. Much more complex and interesting IMO. BTW: You don't have to be a parent to recognize these things. I know everyone is trying to figure things out and it's only been a short time. I think one of the most illogical scenes was in Season 1 when Maddie was trying to reason with a "turned" Artie.

Both Chris and Alicia are extremely annoying for me.
I don't think being a non-parent excludes one from recognizing somebody with lack of common sense, or a lack of respect for others, including minimal consideration for others.
I have yet to hear one person thank Strand for allowing them to share his boat or resources !!
To be fair, I've been trying to decide if it's the writers distortion of what teenagers are, OR, are teenagers in this day and age in total lala land compared to when my own children were teenagers, or even when I was one. OR do both Chris and especially Alicia lack total common sense?
First place, I would think first rule leaving the boat at any time is that everybody stay close to each other, don't wander off, so if they had to make a quick exit back to the boat they could but not this family, the teens are off doing their own thing like they're just docking to buy souvenirs.
I'd like to know what Alicia's intellectual specialty is unless it's painting her nails. :-X
And with Chris, how long is he going to treat his father like a total piece of shit?

I agree with you both about not having to be a parent to see it. At the same time so many parents resent people lacking children saying anything, so I usually don't. Lol. The writing is likely a factor here and I do think Madison and Travis should talk to all of the teens to keep them in the loop more. No you don't want to stress them out but better than secrets & stupid getting them killed as Glenn and Michonne have said on TWD. Right now, I " know" Alicia is smart because she has said so; common sense is a better skill IMO than test scores or intellectualism . Any teen or young adult members care to weigh in on this topic? samantha, Kitsune, @skhksh?

The teens on FTWD are annoying. They are your typical bratty, rude teenager trope. Chris, Alicia and Nick are coddled, pampered and overprotected, yet all they do is brood, whine and complain about their situation. They always seem to make things harder for their already stressed out parents. They are on a beautiful yacht while people are dying everywhere in the zombie apocalypse, and all that they do is complain about how hard it is for them.
I agree that Nick is the least annoying of the three. Although he is a junkie, Nick is more self aware than the other teens. He doesn't blame his drug habit on his parents. He has better social skills with adults and shows his respect for his parents.

ZA parenting drives me nuts. I guess the only excuse is tgat it's early in the outbreak and no one really knows what's up. Nick is an addict so he does what he does but otherwise he seems ok. Chris grew on me a little bit this past episode. The kids do seem rather pampered.

When Travis and Madison first got to the Ranger station, the ranger named George made a comment to Travis without knowing where they actually came from, and he said:
"You folks are from Los Angeles, you got an aire about you."
I was born and raised on the east coast and never had much connection to anybody on the west coast, but is it possible that the way Alicia and Chris (are written in the script) act is typical of those on the west coast, and specifically Los Angeles? Are the people who lived there entitled snobs?
I mean, even common courtesy seems to be missing. It doesn't seem that any of them are grateful that Strand is even allowing them to share his boat. Granted he is a tad mysterious but just the same, there should be a little gratitude coming from the parents to remind their children to say thank you.
The only one Strand invited to go with him was Nick because he has survival ability and he only took the others because they were Nick's family and new stranded friends. Strand didn't have to do that. He could have told them all to find another way.
But if it is characteristic of people on the west coast or specifically Los Angeles then it would be easier to understand why both Travis and Madison's family act like they do.

Now that she's had a chance to act like a normal human being, Alicia is growing on me. She's actually the most responsible one in the group at the moment.

She is growing on me fast too greaterpursuit! It just seems so out of character now for her to have led the pirates to them over a boy she had never met. I like quick-thinking, responsible, badass ALicia a lot more now she has grown up.

I hadn't seen this thread before now. The title! I have boys, but all I know is that there is nothing scarier than a teenage girl, lol. (Alicia is growing on me too)

I liked that when she was talking to Ofelia in the hotel room there wasn't a doubt in her mind that she wanted to survive. She's not even entertaining the alternative.
