The zombie drama ranks No. 2 on cable this season — behind only the flagship series — among the key demo "...The cable network has renewed the prequel zombie drama for a third season, days after its sophomore debut. What's more: the third season will mark its largest to date and consist of 16 episodes — up one from season two and 10 more than its freshman order. Season three will premiere in 2017. Also returning is Chris Hardwick-hosted companion Talking Dead: Fear. The renewal comes as little surprise. The drama, created by Walking Dead mastermind Robert Kirkman and showrunner Dave Erickson, returned for season two on par with its rookie finale. When factoring in three days of DVR, the opener delivered 8.8 million total viewers, including 5.3 million among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic.
