How did the cast react to the script? Did everyone come together and say, “What’s going on? Who is it going to be?” AL: There’s an unspoken feeling on set when we know somebody’s dying. We link arms, bow our heads and pull each other through it. I suppose that’s what they call omerta, the code of silence in the mafia. We have our own code of silence in “The Walking Dead.” It’s so intense and so traumatic to be losing a friend. It’s not just a professional relationship, it’s a personal relationship. So we all decide to not talk about it when this happens. ... Even now do you or anyone in the cast know who will die? AL:Because it’s too painful and too intense, we made a pact on set that we won’t speak about it. I apologize but I can’t talk about it. ...There are many similarities between [Rick and Negan], but I do think there is morality still in Rick. It’s morals and the sanctity of the people who he loves and fights for that are the driving force behind his decision-making. He is a ruthless, uncompromising and tenacious man who will stop at nothing — we’ve seen it — to keep these people alive. But I think he’s met his match...." link

The OP is from Variety, but EW has posted a short bit from SDCC in which Andrew Lincoln discusses the Rick we find in season 7. It is that time o'hiatus when media outlets suddenly find everything said at SDCC so fascinating that "articles" are compiled and released due to TWD media desert. The EW bit was not really worth posting as a dedicated topic so I added it here: "...The cast was reintroduced to that world when they first showed up for filming on season 7 and had to finish the conclusion of that harrowing cliffhanger scene in which Negan begins bashing in the face of one of the Alexandrians. Even Lincoln’s mom felt bad for the actor having to go back and experience that all over again. “I remember my mother said to me, ‘That’s going to be quite a challenge to get back into that state that you were straight after a break,’” says Lincoln. “And I just said, ‘Thanks, mom. That’s kind of my job, thank you.’” And while Lincoln may try to convince us that “it’s a hysterical episode — there’s so many laughs,” the truth is that the cast had to finally say an emotional goodbye to at least one of their castmates. “Norman [Reedus] put it very eloquently,” says Lincoln. “He said, ‘You know, somebody’s going to lose their job at the end of that.’ It’s a big deal, man. It’s a big deal. It’s a family on set.” Lincoln also echoes the comments of fellow cast members and producers who say that Negan’s carnage will set up a completely new dynamic. “It’s just a continuation of a much bigger story,” says Lincoln. “We’re heading towards a bigger end point.” ... link

I will be happy when this Lucille mess is over and the cast can go back to their usual troll. Instead of trying to sell this disaster ratings bait story.
I think it would have been easier on the actors who lost their jobs and the cast if the show had just done the deaths in the final.
And I'm over the tag it's about leading to a bigger story. It's not. It's about moving onto the next forced comic plot. Which will have characters acting OOC.

I love how AL said they made a pact not to talk about it. Is this like an AMC NDA pact? A common sense one?

i think it is a "we all agreed not to talk about it except to give conflicting information about what was filmed when, why and what we think about it " Pact

I think this has been hard on the cast.. Not keeping it quiet, but saying goodbye to these characters and moving on. I think that scene was brutal to play and it weighed on them awhile...Gimple said it in front of all of them, and if you don't want to believe him, Austin said it took several days to shake. I can only imagine for those who have all this history.
