"Conroy also wrote the novel that inspired 'The Great Santini.' BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) — The Prince of Tides author Pat Conroy has died at the age of 70. Conroy, whose best-selling novels drew from his own sometimes painful experiences and evoked vistas of the South Carolina coast and its people, died Friday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Todd Doughty, executive director of publicity at publisher Doubleday, says Conroy died Friday evening at his home in Beaufort surrounded by family and loved ones. Conroy had announced last month that he had pancreatic cancer. Doughty says in a statement that funeral arrangements are still being made. Conroy's novels of troubled relationships and dysfunctional families included The Great Santini and The Prince of Tides, which was made into a movie in the '90s starring Barbra Streisand and Nick Nolte. link
I am saddened although his cancer diagnosis makes this not unexpected. Conroy wrote many of my favorite novels and inspired me as a writer. He fearlessness as a writer to tackle subjects such as sexual violence, dysfunctional families, the pain of coming of age broke barriers of writing and inspired writers of The New South.

I sometimes google Pat Conroy quotes just because. He produced some of the most beautiful stories that have helped me through some tough times. He will be missed but luckily for us his writings live on.

One of the best writers ever in my humble opinion. Yes, sometimes a little wordy, but omg those words he used were so incredible. One of my favorite quotes of his (and I have several) - "Here is all I ask of a book - give me everything. Everything, and don't leave out a single word." Loved that man! (And No, Ripley - I'm really not stalking your old posts today - promise - just looking for a book recommendation this time and Pat Conroy's name caught my eye!)
