J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter) writes a mystery series under her pen name - Robert Galbraith. She was trying to stay anonymous - one of her publishers outed her.
The three (so far) books are set in London. The protagonist Cormoran Strike (mid 30's) has a PI business. The temp agency accidentally sends a gal named Robin to his firm (now there are 2 in the firm). Long story short - Robin stays. Strike is former military - he lost his leg and part of his calf due to an IED in Afghanistan.
The Silkworm Cuckoo's Calling Career of Evil
Am currently engrossed in Career of Evil. If you enjoy British thrillers, this series is wonderful.
"When a mysterious package is delivered to Robin Ellacott, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman’s severed leg. Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but no less alarmed. There are four people from his past who he thinks could be responsible- and Strike knows that any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality.
With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike is increasingly sure is not the perpetrator, he and Robin take matters into their own hands, and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men. But as more horrendous acts occur, time is running out for the two of them…
Career of Evil is the third in the highly acclaimed series featuring private detective Cormoran Strike and his assistant Robin Ellacott. A fiendishly clever mystery with unexpected twists around every corner, it is also a gripping story of a man and a woman at a crossroads in their personal and professional lives."

Laura Lippman writes really good mystery novels. I haven't read her Tess series, but I've read several of her stand alones and they're very good. I was only "meh" on one of them. lauralippman.net/all-books-in-order/

I finally read the last of the Dexter novels. Dexter is Dead. This is the series of books the TV show was based on. I have avoided the series - I enjoyed the novels.

Some of my favorite mystery authors are James Lee Burke, Robert Crais, Carol O'Connell, Michael Connelly, and Sharon McCrumb. All great writers!
