I can't wait for this show to return not because I think it's the best show on tv but because of how much I love Vera Farmiga as Norma. She unapologetically (is this a word?) throws herself into the role and I believe every breath she takes. She deserves more awards attention than she gets. And Norma's relationship with Alex is priceless.

Yes, Vera Farmiga as Norma is an amazing actress. She totally owns that role and just sucks you into the character she's playing.
Freddie Highmore who plays Norman is excellent also. I wasn't aware that he was British until I watched an interview at the end of, I think, season 2. I often wonder what Anthony Perkins, who starred in the original Psycho, would say about Freddie Highmore playing the part of young Norman Bates. They picked such a good actor for the part. Freddie owns that role also.
I didn't care for Sheriff Alex Romero (Nestor Carbonell) at first but I'm totally attached to him now. I have to chuckle with their relationship. He thinks he's the boss but Norma is the boss.
They all deserve awards !!

I can't remember what I read last season about when the show was ending, but don't they have one more season to go? If what happened last week is final and that character is in fact dead (still in shock by the way and cannot wait for tonight's episode!!) does this push us into the storyline that everyone is so familiar with for the next(and possibly final) season?! Everybody that follows this show since the beginning knows what I'm saying, I'm just trying to remain as vague as I can so as not to ruin it for casual followers!
How does everybody feel about tonight's show? How do you guys think things are going to go?! ???

To be clear, I'm not saying this as an idle threat or out of some kind of tantrum, if Norma is really dead, I'm out. She and Alex (together or apart) are they only characters and storylines I care about. All of the other actors are great but I'm not excited to watch them on screen. Vera/Norma is the show for me.

I'm on pins and needles waiting for the finale episode tonight, in 15 minutes !!! :o Right now on A&E they're showing last week episode and I can hardly watch it. I loved when Alex and Norma got married, they really love each other, but there is no way that Norman is going to allow Alex, or anybody else for that matter to share is mother. There is a Season 5 scheduled for next March 2017 and it's hard to believe that they would show Norma like they did at the end of last weeks episode, and then book 10 episodes next year. I was also hoping last week that Dylan would find that stuffed rabbit in Norman's room, the one that Emma's mother wanted to give Emma.

I'm right there with you! I love that those two finally got together and they are awesome and so happy and here comes crazy cakes Norman to blow it all up for them! Honestly, I love Freddie Highmore on this show and he is amazing as Norman but losing Norma is kind of like losing Rick on TWD, you know? It just doesn't work for me without her, she's the glue!

Is it just me or are others confused?
Was the whole thing a dream?
Or is Norman living in another world?

The last two episodes were great and I think both Freddie and Nestor did their best work of the series. I hate that Norma's dead, but I respect that the writers had the guts to pull the trigger, because in this story she had to die.. I still don't think I'll be back though.

I was also hoping last week that Dylan would find that stuffed rabbit in Norman's room, the one that Emma's mother wanted to give Emma. That was an amazing episode last night and in answer to whether it was all a dream or not, no it wasn't, it's just that Norman's psychosis as a result of Norma's death has now crossed him over to this alternate universe were the basis for the movie "Psycho" began. He's now living in his own world with his dead mother's body and his dead dog running around the house where everything is "copacetic" for him and he has complete control over his environment. So, given that, I can only assume that next season (if it's the final as I was asking last night) will be the one that carries us to the point where the movie began, with Norman living the split personality of himself and Norma and her dictating and pushing him into more situations and more murders and maybe Alex will get out and somehow find a way to stop him? I still hate that Norma died, but I know it was necessary to the story and while she may be dead at least she's not gone, you know? Btw, how creepy was it when Norman super glued her eyes open last night?! eww!

I don't think that Dylan knows that Norma died. From that phone call he made to Norman, it sounded more like Dylan just decided he needed to stay away based on his last conversation with his mother. Dylan also said he changed his phone number so obviously nobody knows how to get hold of him now.
Of course Norman never mentioned to Dylan that their mother was dead.
OMG, when Norman glued her eyes open, THAT was totally freaky !!
I was PO'd that Alex got arrested but under the circumstances of his attitude toward Norman, maybe it was better than he wasn't around for a period.

webergal Dylan not being able to reconcile with Norma tears me up. It reminds me of the miniseries, Lonesome Dove (my favorite miniseries, by the way). Newt and Woodrow F. Call never said the things they needed to say. I'm still tore up about that one, too. I can't even imagine what he's going to feel and think once he finds out she's gone.

I know the story from Hitchcock's Psycho and that Norma had to die at some point for the continued story of Norman's psychosis and "Mother."
One of the things that confused me about last night's episode was that Norman's doctor was absent from any of the scenes. That's why I thought a lot of what went on during the episode was a dream when Norman laid down on Norma's bed, and perhaps fell asleep. It was after that when his stuffed dog Juno came back alive!
Norman was suppose to be seeing the doctor 3 days a week and it's hard to believe that nobody notified the doctor, even after Norman told the state police investigator that he was in the crazy house for those two weeks when his mother got married. Norman clearly implied to her that he blamed Alex for helping to put him there accusing Alex that he only did that so Alex could have his mother.
Even if Norman had refused to contact his doctor, it's hard to imagine that his doctor wouldn't have found out, from the news, the authorities, or even from Alex. With Norma being the police chief's wife, I would have thought it would be all over the news that his wife was found dead.
And what happened to Norma's brother Caleb?
Plus it was strange enough that nobody came to the funeral memorial, except when Alex showed up. Granted, Norma probably alienated most of those who were her friends, but Alex was the Chief of Police, so for that reason alone, there should have been his friends, and people from his office who should have attended the memorial out of respect. Again, that's the reason I thought it was a dream sequence.
I sure hope Alex is back for Season 5. He was too much of an important character from the very beginning in Season 1 for them to just arrest him on some trumped up perjury charge for lying about he previous personal relationship with the bank lady, and to remove him from the story. And Alex promised Norman that he was going to prove that Norman killed his mother, and Alex repeatedly voiced throughout all the seasons that he was "a man of his word!"
