I just finished the third in The 5th Wave trilogy - The Last Star - YA but the entire series has been well written. (Rick Yancey)
Just started the third in the Passage trilogy - The City of Mirrors - haven't gotten very far but it's great so far. (Justin Cronin)

I started this last summer, couldn't put it down, then got sidetracked and put it down indefinitely. Just picked it back up again. I love this book. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. It is about bioethics, in a nutshell.
Just picked up Dharma Bums by Kerouac. Enjoying it immensely.

The Girl in the spider's web (a lisbeth Salander novel) by David Lagercrantz. I got it from a friend that knows how much I loved the original series. I was reluctant to buy it because the writer of the original series passed away but so far, the new writer seems to have kept the spirit of the OS.

The Widow by Fiona Barton Really enjoyed this one. www.ew.com/article/2016/02/11/the-widow-fiona-barton-ew-review"In the past few years, it’s become almost impossible to publish a female-driven psychological thriller without invoking the name of a certain twisty literary phenomenon. (Apparently, the first rule of Gone Girl Club is: Never stop talking about Gone Girl.) But Barton’s debut, already a best-seller in her native U.K., might have more of a right to the comparison than most. Like Gillian Flynn’s 2012 blockbuster—and its closest successor, Paula Hawkin’s The Girl on the Train—The Widow is both a taut reconstruction of a crime and a ruthless examination of marriage, told from the multiple viewpoints of not-always-reliable narrators."

I am now reading Missoula by Jon Krakauer. Tough read and can only take it in small bites. Interesting the culture of rape where the men are "misunderstood" and turn on the tears for absolution. Krakauers interviews with psychiatrists on normal victim reactions lends so much.... The authorities would do well to take some lessons.

I'm marybethorama on goodreads by the way.I'm Rosie on Goodreads. I like to read Linda Castillo's novels about a former Amish woman, Kate Burkholder, turned Chief of Police in her Ohio town Painters Mill. Her family still remains in the order. Edgy thriller novels. Reading the newest: Among the Wicked

I just finished reading Chrissy Teigen's cookbook Cravings. I found a couple things that I will be trying.
Sweet and Salty Coconut Rice and a baked oatmeal dish that sounds very intriguing.
I do enjoy reading cookbooks even though I often only find one of two things to try.

I just finished Behind Closed Doors a debut thriller by B.A. Paris. It's being touted as the new Gone Girl. It is most definitely not - it is a straight up thriller. The reader knows very quickly what is going on.
The husband is an evil psychopath who likes who he is - think Hannibal Lector's complete lack of compassion/remorse.
There is a twist at the end - in a good way.
I'm very picky about mistakes. There are a few that got overlooked by the author's editor.
I enjoyed the plot and finished it very quickly.
**** I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Reading a script for a play is fun and different. I'd love to see this play. So far I'm enjoying the book.

Ripley , I just finished Ron Rash' newest novel - The Risen. Slender book - read it very quickly but thought about it for days after I finished it. Read this at Harper Collins Publishers:
“The Risen is an important novel — and an intriguing one — from one of our master storytellers. In its pages, the past rises up, haunting and chiding, demanding answers of us all.” —The News & Observer
New York Times bestselling author Ron Rash demonstrates his superb narrative skills in this suspenseful and evocative tale of two brothers whose lives are altered irrevocably by the events of one long-ago summer, one bewitching young woman—and the secrets that could destroy their lives.
While swimming in a secluded creek on a hot Sunday in 1969, sixteen-year-old Eugene and his older brother, Bill, meet the entrancing Ligeia. A sexy, free-spirited redhead from Daytona Beach banished to their small North Carolina town, Ligeia entrances the brothers, especially Eugene, who is drawn to her raw sensuality and rebellious attitude. Eugene begins to move farther and farther away from his brother, the cautious and dutiful Bill, and when Ligeia vanishes as suddenly as she appeared, the growing rift between the two brothers becomes immutable.
Decades later, the once close brothers now lead completely different lives. Bill is a gifted and successful surgeon, and a paragon of the community, while Eugene, the town reprobate, is a failed writer and determined alcoholic. When a shocking reminder of the past unexpectedly surfaces, Eugene is plunged back into that fateful summer, and the girl he cannot forget.
The deeper Eugene delves into his memories, the closer he comes to finding the truth. But can Eugene’s recollections be trusted? And will the truth set him free and offer salvation . . . or destroy his damaged life and everyone he loves?"

Currently reading The Wonder by Emma Donoghue who wrote Room.
The setting is 1850's Ireland right after the Great Potato Famine
She, Emma Donoghue, writes in the Author Notes that "hers is an invented story but it based on almost 50 cases of so-called Fasting Girls - hailed for surviving without food for long periods - in the British Isles, Western Europe and North America between the sixteenth and twentieth centuries."
This is truly an "unputdownable" book. I confess I almost didn't continue as it takes a while to get immersed in the story. I started it right after I finished The Risen. The timing wasn't right as I was re-living the plot that book. So I waited a day or two later and began again.
Glad I did. I'm not quite finished but I can tell you I will be thinking about the events in this story for a long time.

Just finished All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood.
Has anyone else read this?
I loved it even though the topic is controversial.
"As the daughter of a meth dealer, Wavy knows not to trust people, not even her own parents. Struggling to raise her little brother, eight-year-old Wavy is the only responsible "adult" around. She finds peace in the starry Midwestern night sky above the fields behind her house. One night everything changes when she witnesses one of her father's thugs, Kellen, a tattooed ex-con with a heart of gold, wreck his motorcycle. What follows is a powerful and shocking love story between two unlikely people that asks tough questions, reminding us of all the ugly and wonderful things that life has to offer."

Horror Alert! I just finished The Hatching by Ezekiel Boone (he also writes under Alexi Zentner) . This is first in a trilogy. Next book is Skitter. The plot revolves around an ancient species of man eating S*P*I*D*E*R*S taking over the planet It was actually very entertaining. I recommend it. There are lots of characters but he keeps the narrative tight. Ending is a huge cliffhanger - which angered many readers - guess they missed the part about this being Book 1 of The Hatching Series. BTW: Totally unrelated to the comedy film of the same name.

Joe Hill is very talented IMO. The apple doesn't fall from the tree - two very talented author parents. I read Heart Shaped Box not realizing his father is SK. At that time, he was keeping a tight lid on his parentage. Haven't gotten a chance to start it yet. Work has been kicking my ass. lol

Just finished Dinner with Buddha by Roland Merullo and loved it. It is part of a trilogy but I haven't decided if I will read the other two. I kind of want to leave the characters where they are.
I just bought Mary Oliver's new book, Upstream, and also The Areas of My Expertise by John Hodgman, so have decisions to make.
