I'll kick this off. Personally I enjoy hearing what others are reading. I like to know a bit about the book - genre and perhaps a tidbit/review. Just finished a fiction work, Fates and Furies by Lauren Goff. A story about a marriage divided into two parts. Fates is husband's happy, almost bubbly at times POV - Furies is wife's dark almost Gothic POV. This rivals Gone Girl in my estimation although there is no criminal element in Fates and Furies. BTW: Barack Obama placed this book on his 2015 reading list. Some reviewers think Goff veered off track with Furies but I disagree - I thought that part of the book was interesting. www.theguardian.com/books/2015/dec/24/why-the-fates-and-furies-this-years-most-talked-about-novel

Unfortunately, most of my reading comes by way of the internet these days. MOstly doing research into gardening, cooking, animals and permaculture. AT the moment anyway. I can recommend some very good books on the subject for Forest Gardening though.
The Resilient Farm and HOmestead by Ben Falk
Also, for cooking, you can't go wrong with The Flavor Bible. 8-)

I'm reading Neckbeard Uprising by TJ Kirk (also known as The Amazing Atheist on YouTube).
I don't agree with everything this guy says, but he's a pretty intriguing fellow either way. That's for sure.

Recommend:
Freedom's Child - Jax Miller
Fool Me Once - Harlen Coben - one of my favorite authors
Currently reading The Passenger - Lisa Lutz - Binge worthy fare especially for those who enjoy strong female protagonists. So far living up to the hype

Nicci French (psychological suspense) and rereading Outlander. I recently finished the new Irvine Welsh which I loved. I always recommend Phil Rickman (supernaturalish mystery and horror).

I am reading The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery. Part journal/memoir, part science book in a mass market sense. I think octopuses re rather mysterious and their intelligence interests me so I am enjoying it..and the writer has a chatty, informative style.

I've been on a fictional history kick lately: Outlander series by Diana Giabaldon Fall of Giants trilogy by Ken Follett 11.22.63 by Steven King What is the Steven King book about? Is it new? I haven't read any of his work in a long time...nothing could compare to The Dead Zone and The Stand... I kind of liked Under the Dome until the ending. I tried the one about the car but the scene where the people died in the crowd was too graphic for me.

The main character goes back in time to stop the assassination and all hell breaks loose. I am not a huge King fan but this book was good.

Fellside
Starting with the Felix Castor novels, part of a series that changed my preconceived view of urban fantasy, followed by “The Steel Seraglio/The City of Silk and Steel” and “The House of War and Witness”, two novels written together with his wife and daughter, Linda and Louise, that are one more beautiful than the other, and ending with “The Girl With All the Gifts”, written under the already mentioned pen name M.R. Carey, an engaging and thrilling book that kept me breathless (not through all its length mind you, otherwise I would be dead right now, but you get my meaning), these are the kind of books I count among my favorites.
The above refers to Mike Carey aka known by his pen name M.R. Carey. I'll be checking out the books mentioned in the above blurb. Fellside means mountain side or hillside. I really got into Fellside. Similar genre as SK's Lisey's Story - part horror, part supernatural, part ghost story all interwoven into real life. Harriet Grace is one of the most evil protagonists I've encountered in fiction. Lizzie is one of the most pitied and saddest minor protagonists. Plot reminded me a bit of SK's Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption (Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption is the title of SK's novella on which the movie was based). I never the twist coming with Jess Moulson's "Other Side" wanderings. Hated to finish the book and that's my stamp of approval.

I'm reading the Kate Daniels series Magic
I am on # 6 now- Ilove the Atlanta setting and the world of shapeshifters, magic, vampire and more in a post-Apoc world.
This is book # 1
"Atlanta would be a nice place to live, if it weren’t for magic…
One moment magic dominates, and cars stall and guns fail. The next, technology takes over and the defensive spells no longer protect your house from monsters. Here skyscrapers topple under onslaught of magic; werebears and werehyenas prowl through the ruined streets; and the Masters of the Dead, necromancers driven by their thirst of knowledge and wealth, pilot blood-crazed vampires with their minds.
In this world lives Kate Daniels. Kate likes her sword a little too much and has a hard time controlling her mouth. The magic in her blood makes her a target, and she spent most of her life hiding in plain sight.
But when Kate’s guardian is murdered, she must choose to do nothing and remain safe or to pursue his preternatural killer. Hiding is easy, but the right choice is rarely easy…"
