I'm a huge fan of this Starz series which show runner Ronald D. Moore ( ST:TNG, BSG) based off of Diana Gabaldon's wonderful novels. Been privileged to meet Diana many times -my favorite encounter with her was at the Grandfather Mtn Highland Games in 2009. Grabdfather Mountain here in Western NC & our annual Highland festival were her inspiration for the Mt. Heliocon gatherings starting with Drums of Autumn and the later novels. The location of Fraser's Ridge is approximately at Black Mountain NC, fewer than 20 miles from my home. 8-)

Is this the General Discussion thread for Outlander? I did not see one, and since this thread is only titled "Outlander", I assume it was. If I'm wrong, don't hesitate to move my post RipleyIt is hard for me to accept that Claire would stay married with Frank during all those years. I was going to say "stay in a loveless marriage", but I realize that she loved him in a certain way. But it's one think to love someone in a certain way, it's another thing to stay with that person for years; have sex with them. After conceiving their daughter, I don't know if they had a sexless marriage or not. I guess we'll learn more about that throughout the episodes. And I know that I have to try to put myself in the context of the 40s, 50s and 60s. Women were staying in loveless and/or unhappy marriages all the time. But Claire was a progressive and independent woman. She also became a doctor. So at a certain point in her life, she certainly had the financial means to leave. I'm trying to figure out why she stayed until Frank's death. Hopefully, what we'll see on the show will explain her motivations.

Sonia, I just changed the thread topic adding " General Discussion season 3"- sorry the topic was not marked clearly. Your post is perfect where it is. The whole post-Brianna's birth, Claire - Frank relationship is an odd one to digest. As you point out, she is so independent yet opted to stay. I think her choice to stay was based upon wanting her daughter to have a father, but also genuinely trying to make that work. We are going to see that her choice came with some very painful prices and I'm certain the show will remain true to that. I am a fan of Tobias Menzies' work and yet I still find myself wanting to shake Frank from time to time for being a man of his time. Many men would not have done what he did for Claire, choosing to stay in the marriage and raise a child he knew was not his own. Still, it does not excuse many of his choices IMO. I do not want to drop spoilers from the book and ruin things for you (unless you want me to under spoiler tags) but we will see that both Frank and Claire will pay some awful prices for their marriage. Claire's other relationships with men- friendships and such, show that she is appreciated by men in both centuries, despite being a woman and becoming a doctor. I find it a courageous choice of hers for the time- even major U.S universities did not accept women as students until 1970 (looking at you UVa), so that gives her much earlier education a well-deserved side-eye IMO.

Yeah, Tobias has done a great job of making is hate Jonathan Randall and making Frank likeable. Although I'm starting to like Frank less and less, but through no fault of the actor. When Claire came back, I just felt bad for him, because it's an impossible situation to be in. And although I can understand his pain, I don't think that his demands that Claire forgets everything about Jamie and about three years of her life are fair not realistic. More and more, I found myself almost shouting at the screen "What did you expect? What do you want from her?"
