With the presumed death of Clive Owen's character Dr John Thackery in the season 2 finale dand no renewal order for season 3, doubtful the show OR Emily Kinney will be returning. She was a bit extra background character who might have been played by anyone frankly and added little to the show beyond some eye candy in a few episodes.

The Knick may not be dead yet according to showrunner and creator Steven Soderbergh! This Variety piece has info on the Clive Owen- starring drama in which TWD alum Emily Kinney had a bit part in season 2 as nurse Daisy Ryan. "...Now, executive producer Steven Soderbergh tells Variety exclusively he’s actively exploring the show’s future with the show’s writers. “It was always conceived in two-year chunks,” he says. “The writers met yesterday to talk about what year three and four would look like — when would it take place, who are the characters. We always imagined every two years we would annihilate what came before and start over. And that’s what we’re doing now.” Soderbergh says he wants the show to continue, and that the network is waiting to hear his plans for the future. “I would like to keep going. I always thought of it as a six-year thing if we were allowed to continue. I hope we can figure it out. I hope we come up with something that I look at it and go, OK, I want to spend another two years of my life on that. Because that’s really the question. It’s an intense experience — rewarding, but I want to make sure we want to keep the bar at the same height or higher...” Article link

Guessing a big eventual no here since Soderbergh and others associated with The Knick seem to have moved on to other projects. Question: Can you provide anything on a possible Season 3 of The Knick? I’m dying to know! Even if the answer is that it is not coming back… I will be relieved because not knowing is driving me crazy! — Melissa Ausiello: I asked HBO for an update and they re-sent me the same statement they shared with the media last year regarding the show’s fate, which notes that Steven Soderbergh and his fellow EPs are “working with Cinemax to determine what additional seasons would look like.” link

I expected this since no renewal was announced last year but it is a huge loss. Clive Owen and the cast were fantastic and the writing stellar. A disappointment for me , but not a surprise. "Cinemax is discharging The Knick. The period medical drama from Steven Soderbergh has been canceled after two seasons, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The news is not surprising and comes 15 months after the season-two finale, which killed off star Clive Owen. "After a critically acclaimed two-season run of The Knick on Cinemax, we will not be going forward with additional episodes of the series," said HBO miniseries and Cinemax programming president Kary Antholis in a statement. "Despite our pride in and affection for the series as well as our respect for and gratitude toward Steven Soderbergh and his team, we have decided to return Cinemax to its original primetime series fare of high-octane action dramas, many of which will be internationally co-produced." link
