"...Robert Carlyle claims that not only does Trainspotting screenwriter John Hodge deserve all the praise, but also that “it’s one of the best scripts I’ve f—ing read.” Directed by Danny Boyle, the sequel will reunite Carlyle with co-stars Ewan McGregor (Renton), Jonny Lee Miller (Sick Boy) and Ewan Bremner (Spud), who all will reprise their roles from the 1996 film. “I’ve never seen a sequel that takes place 20 years after the original, so I think that gives it a certain unique quality,” Carlyle said. “And the way John Hodge has put this thing down, obviously with the help of Danny Boyle, is to make it about how the characters’ lives have moved on… or have they? Without giving anything away, maybe some of them haven’t really moved on. That’s what the audience is going to have to go through with them.” Link to original interview with Robert Carlyle re TS2EW link

I loved Robert Carlyle in Ravenous; but I have not seen Trainspotting lol. It's about heroin? or something?

I loved Robert Carlyle in Ravenous; but I have not seen Trainspotting lol. It's about heroin? or something? I liked Robert Carlyle in The Full Monty and Angela's Ashesspectre, I haven't seen Trainspotting so I Googled it: "Heroin addict Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) stumbles through bad ideas and sobriety attempts with his unreliable friends -- Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), Begbie (Robert Carlyle), Spud (Ewen Bremner) and Tommy (Kevin McKidd). He also has an underage girlfriend, Diane (Kelly Macdonald), along for the ride. After cleaning up and moving from Edinburgh to London, Mark finds he can't escape the life he left behind when Begbie shows up at his front door on the lam, and a scheming Sick Boy follows."

First trailer look is out "...Original director Danny Boyle returns to helm a script by original screenwriter John Hodge. All four stars, Ewen Bremner, Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle, are set to reprise their roles as Spud, Renton, Sick Boy and Begbie, respectively. But they didn’t jump on board immediately. “The actors were understandably worried about its reputation and not wanting to let people down or to just be cashing in,” Boyle told The Hollywood Reporter in September. “So actually the script ... has been put under a very fierce spotlight by everyone, and it’s a good one.” The film starts 10 years after the events of the first film, following author Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting sequel, Porno, and is set for release Feb. 3, 2017. ..." link

I'm still not sure how I feel about a sequel. I really like the original film, it's gritty and hard to watch but it's good. I never thought it needed a sequel.

It is hard for me to say I "loved" the first film and I agree I felt no need for a sequel. I'll watch of course and see whay I think about how the group has survived.
I am so tired of sequel and reboot entertainment culture. Most are not done well and are not necessary. I guess for some it is ghreat to see a favorite show come back- I was excited abotu X-Files, but ultimately disappointed since only one episode held true to the flavor of the original show IMO. But I guess those make the money so get greenlit.

I don't know why Danny Boyle decided that Trainspotting needed a sequel.Either movie is going to be amazing or its going to be a complete disaster.
